loud z axis and y axis

Hello,

i assambled my MK3 today and im not very happy with my prusa right know. There are some problems i cant fix.

I got a broken print fan. Talked to the support and they will ship me a new one asap.

Biggest problem is the Y axis movement noise like in the following 2 videos. i disassembled everything and put it together again like in the manual but it dont get better. I tried to oil the bearings but that didnt make a difference. also tried to run the carriage without the bed but it still sounds like grinding.

Next thing is the Z-axis bottom mount on the right side. got a huge play at the hole from the rod so the Z-axis is making bad sounds when moving slowly. I will get ned plastic parts shiped next week.

im not sure if im just to stupid to build a printer or if i got a "monday" printer :D.

Re: loud z axis and y axis

The Z "buzzing" sounds like resonance. Some other part (PSU or LCD cover) is vibrating. Try locating the source and quelling. I stuck a small bit of rubber under my LCD cover and stopped all the buzzing.

The Y sound is harder to tell. It sounds a bit loud in the video, but not sure how sensitive your mic is. If you move the Y carriage that fast it does make a raspy noise due to the linear ball bearings. Once you screw down the bed and at normal print speeds it is pretty quiet. I assume you are still hearing it being loud?

That Z end in original form is a known problem (I assume you didn't get R2 parts). You can grab those from GitHub or get the ones from the link in my sig to print. That will fix that problem right up.

I still hear that raspy noise. its not extreme in normal print speed but still noticeable.

I saw your Z-axis mod on thingiverse today and already i will print them tomorrow.

Your y-axis is silent compared to mine and others I've heard, but in general Y is the loudest.

Your z-axis...yeah same as mine. 95% of people manage to assemble this thing perfectly and its dead silent, whereas mine buzzes, rattles, squeaks and groans more than the 94 sentra I drove in high school. Aside from some partial solutions below, the biggest thing I've done is just to run in stealth mode all the time and turn down the Z speed globally with M203. Nasty resonance for me between 15-20mms, so I use anywhere from 10-14. Also, never really run more than 80-100 mms print speed.

-Reseating the z axis and carefully cleaning and lubing helped some. not perfect still, but it helped.
-Loosening Z trap nuts helped slightly, they were slightly too tight and bound a little
-Removing the tin insulation plate from inside the power supply and re insulating it properly helped a ton
-replacing Y bearings with IGUS helped a ton. slightly more slop, and very tricky to mount and tension the u-bolts properly. (i'm using the non-cased verions)

Re: loud z axis and y axis

thanks for the fast responses.

i printed the upgrades from "jltx" and the noise is gone.

I also will adding some Igus bearings on the Y-axis. I will try these: https://www.igus.de/product/1185
Thomas Sanladerer told in a video that Igus polymer bearings without case need some force to work without play.

I will give you guys a feedback when i get the bearings.

best regards.
