Help new Build top layer issue

I am still learning but, I have an issue with the top layer and not sure what would cause this.
I have attached a picture.
looks to me like the nozzle is dropping down?

Re: Help new Build top layer issue

Hi David,
it's unlikely that the nozzle is dropping.
this looks like over extrusion,

early firmware and the associated slicer profiles did have a problem with this.
you don't say which you are using...
I think firmware 3.1.3 is the latest for the printer, and the latest slicer version is 1.39.1

make sure you are using the Mk3 Slicer profile, I accidentally used the Mk2 MMU profile for the Mk3, and the results were rubbish...

some versions of the slicer have an extrusion multiplier command in the start Gcode, which resets the extrusion multiplier to 95% to try and correct the over extrusion. a problem ma arise if you have mis-matching slicer versions and printer firmware.

in the short term, why not Print it again, then after the first layer completes, use the LCD menu to reduce the 'Flow' value it's in the Tune Sub menu, this will reduce the extrusion rate (normally controlled by the 'Extrusion Multiplier' in the Slicer)., which should improve the surface appearance.

try reducing it by 5% for starters...

Beware, reducing the 'Flow' (extrusion multiplier) in the slicer, will have an effect on the first layer, hence my suggestion to make the test change after the first layer completes.

the first layer live 'Z' adjustment balances the amount of plastic against the space available to contain it.in order to give the correct amount of squish.

if you reduce the extrusion multiplier, there will be less plastic extruded, and as a result you will probably need to increase the live 'Z' value to restore the squish for the first layer... almost every variable on your printer has an effect on more than one area of the printing...
that's part of the learning curve, that comes with the process.
have fun

regards joan

I am using the newest firmware and printing from SD card with the files it came with. I noticed that it happens as it moves to the next part. It was in stealth mode. It seems to be better in normal mode. Thank you for your response.

If you're using the original files on the SD card, you need to replace them with the ones that came with the latest driver package.
