Re: Fine tune your MK3 Y axis

Nice to hear that it worked better with a fine-tuned motor holder 😀
Is it PLA or PETG in your calibration cube?

Black PETG. Been using it because it's super glossy and shows every defect loud and clear.

Wouldn't a solution like this work better?
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2770134

Given you use a 16T idler, and create a holder for the idler that aligns with the motor.

That's a good idea.
Men I would make a belt holder so that the belt is in a u-shaped track.
Then you will not have to cut it and it will be better protected from sliding.

Would you need to flip the teeth to be under the U dividers instead? When the belt curves around, they will be facing upward. I can confirm with the current design they slip if too tight.

Of course it will be even better! Thank you for the input!

Ive ordered a roll of PETG Orange from the Prusa Shop, they say its a colour match but we will see, these posts are great well done to all involved! have the mods been adopted in what prusa are now shipping out?

Re: Fine tune your MK3 Y axis

This is only one part of the solution (i think).

If you have a 16t pulley mounted on the current part holding the 20T idler, it will not align correctly to the motor end on the back side of the Y axis.
You would need a slightly redesigned idle holder for the Y idler (front) that drops the position for the 16T idler down slightly.

I have not measured, since i don't have a precise assembly of the printer in 3D, just took a look at the printer itself. Just ordered some 16T pulleys with teeth and without, would be cool to try this solution as it would be completely horizontal.

If you do have a precise assembly RHDreambox, would you mind checking to see if a 16T pulley would align correctly to the other side? 🙂

So, @RHDreambox would you please upload the .stl file for this holder update ?

Thank you! I'll give his a try once I get the refill of petg, and idler 🙂

Re: Fine tune your MK3 Y axis

That design is only for 16T idler, isn't it ?

"GT2-16-STL_STEP.ZIP" Would require a 16T idler, yes.

Thank you so much! Upgraded today and no longer is my y belt twist as the bed moves and it so good running parallel

Let us know how works... After your comment in another post I checked and see that my y axis motor isn't flush with the frame so I'm guessing a motor mount reprint is in my future.

Running the 16T variant now, went together nicely and alignment looks great. Something pretty about seeing the belt riding on identical pulleys on each end, and I like the idea that it's pulling from the same point in each direction as it moves. So far operation is quiet and quality seems good.

If you do reprint the motor mount, look a few pages into this thread and find the STL RHD did with more bulk, it's working great for me even though I haven't drilled for the third screw hole he added.

@RHDreambox: If you haven't already, you might consider opening a Github account and storing these tweaks there as projects (or maybe a Prusa i3 MK3 "RHD Edition" project) containing all this sweet work. 🙂

Excellent, I'm glad this turned out how i thought it might. Can't wait for my parts to arrive now. 🙂 Doing the same concept for the X axis as well (Zaribo X-Axis) 🙂

Re: Fine tune your MK3 Y axis

Well after printing and installing the parts for my X,Y,Z axes I have to say that RHDreambox is amazing! Any change we get an extruder body update? The filament path isnt straight and the filament can jam and curl around the bondtech gears. This has happened to me a few time with PETG, cleaning filament, and PLA

Thank you all MK3 fans for the appreciation of my work 😀
Maybe I will open a Github account, so it will be a bit more discipline on my work.
But I may be too old to fix it 😮

Re: Fine tune your MK3 Y axis

Can i ask.. What is the current best Y-Axis upgrade?

As I built mine, I found the Y belt would not run straight and thought I fixed it by flipping the pulley over:

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3-f30/flipped-pully-to-get-y-axis-central-is-this-ok--t13722.html#p61804

But I soon found this didn't help, so "solved" it by adding a 2mm spacer on my motor mount... This improved things, but I am not entirely sure it fixed it.

Now that I have printed almost every "upgrade" part (on my old Printrbot) and literally stopped building my MK3 due to time limitations, I wonder if its worth going back to the Y-Axis again and printing some of the upgraded parts.

So what are the best Y-Axis parts available?
