Extruder Skipping Wont Feed

Hello,
I just got my i3 MK3 built and was running through the calibration which was going great up until the point where I load the filament.

It won't fees the filament and just sits there skipping/jumping.

If I manually push the filament it will feed through but as soon as I stop the extruder motor will start jumping again.

I have added a video of the skipping in action.

Any suggestions and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

You cant expect the extruder to be able to push the filament if you have it open. It needs the two gears to grab the filament with enough force.

Does it skip without filament?

Also... can you show us how far you tightened the tension spring bolts?

I don't think it's the not pushing (in the video) that he's referring to.

It's that without additional force on the filament, in order to help the pinion turn, the stepper is just stalling, even when the idler is open and there's no extra resistance. I'm assuming that it's the same with the idler closed and the video is just to give a better view.

Possibly damaged motor cables or just really bad alignment causing it to bind ?

I tought that may be the case, thats why i asked if the extruder has the same behaviour without any filament in there?

Maybe it just clicks on minor resistance and then the video makes total sense xD

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry its taken so long to get back to posting a reply.

I opened it to show the skipping. It does that even without filament which seems odd.

Any suggestions?

Re: Extruder Skipping Wont Feed - FIXED

All,
Thank you so much for the help.

It was a cable connection issue. I put the cable back in place for the stepper and it started acting correctly. Thanks again.

I had the same issue and again it was the connector on the board not being pushed in far enough. I think its the last stepper to be connected into a very busy part of the board. I think it's easy to mess up and hard to know you've got the connector in right.
