Double-sided sheets

So, I know there have been issues with the powder-coated sheets; I’m totally cool with how that situation has been handled, that’s not the question here.

So eventually, I *WILL* be buying one of the powder-coated sheets, but how to decide: textured or glossy? There are times when I’d like each.
Granted, I have no idea how the process works, but it has me thinking, both powder-coated sheets are double-sided...

Would it be possible to make a build plate that is glossy on one side and textured on the other?? I’d buy that in a heartbeat. Anyone else?

Jo and PR, can you make a sheet that is glossy on one side and textured on the other?

What are the pro's and con's of the two new types over the old one? I've asked to have my MK3 held until the new sheets are available, but why one over the other?

It depends on what you're printing and how you want your bottom layer to look. I tend to print case material where the bottom layer must look as nice as possible. I personally don't care for the textured look the powder coated bed gives you vs the PEI sheet now included with the printer. Some people prefer a glossy look on their bottom layer.

On prints like this, bottom layer means everything.

I'm not sure if there are technical aspects to the choice; (I'm new to 3D printing.) I think it's just an aesthetic choice as Corey indicated.

My old printer had a glass bed; when you print directly on the bed you get a glassy finish, smooth and shiny; you still get visible lines, so it's like shiny stripes. If I put blue tape down, then I get a matte finish. I like glossy in some instances and matte in the other. I suppose you'd get similar results with the glossy powder-coated sheets.

From what I've been reading the textured sheet seems pretty polarizing; some love the results, others hate it; I've never seen a textured bed print up close, so I can't judge. I understand they use the textured sheets on the printed parts but my MK3 is currently in "being packed" for the weekend. With luck my kit will ship Monday, zip through customs, and be in my hands by next weekend. If I have to fake being a patient adult for another weekend I may lose my sh*t.

in any case, if Prusa made a sheet that was textured on one side and glossy on the other, then it stands to reason that you could choose to make prints textured, glossy, or matte (by using tape on the glossy side.) Maximum versatility.
