God glad I found this... looks like design flaw to me. Too bad support is not allowed to acknowledge this issue....

* PLA is mostly affected
* triggered by repeated retractions on small parts like legs
* pulling out filament fixes it
* gear alignment and idler screws have zero effect

This is so bloody unique issue I can't believe I had to suffer since March when I got my printer.
Also got my Mk3 in late March.

  • Have you tried adjust the max volumetric speed option in Slic3r when using PLA? Most of my issues with PLA went away when I adjusted Filament Settings->Advanced->Print speed override->Max volumetric speed from 15mm^3/s (Prusa's default for PLA) to 11.5mm^3/s (a more realistic estimate of the E3D V6 hotend's throughput capability). For many materials besides PLA, Prusa's defaults are lower (e.g. 8mm^3/s for PETG) which might explain why some materials print without issue.

  • Lots of rapid retractions in a small space are going to cause issues with any printer. In Slic3r, you can try adjusting Printer Settings->Extruder 1->Retraction->Minimum travel after retraction. Here again, Prusa uses an aggressive setting of 1 whereas the default for Slic3r is 2. I usually have it set to 3 or higher as any stringing in such a small space will usually be inside the print.

    • Part of the problem is that the "clicking extruder" is a symptom that can have many causes. In my case -- and it sounds like perhaps yours -- there is no mechanical issue, and slicer settings can resolve the problem. In others, people have tried a myriad of solutions and found hardware fixes such as the PTFE tube lock. In yet others, the use of an enclosure or onset of hot summer months results in excessive ambient temperatures that cause transient heat problems.

    Hello, I was facing this issue too and I believe I have found the culprit and the way how to fix it.

    I just found this thread after having this problem the last week (thanks google, not thanks to this forum where stuff like this is surprisingly hard to find). I basically did the same thing and it started to work properly; I'm still worried that it might not be the PFTE though, but more hollow than that below the PFTE tube. Bad milling?

    My filament seems to be consistently jammed on one side when it happened, about 2-3mm.
