Cannot enable filament sensor
Running firmware 3.1.1 RC2 B137, Menu > Settings > Fil. Sensor is always "[N/A]". If filament is unloaded, it switches to "None". The option cannot be changed to "enabled", it always stays like this.
Both end connectors unplugged and reconnected, it's the same. I took reasonable care to ensure the cable isn't pinched when mounting 🙄
Is it possible to test the sensor with a voltmeter, without removing it from the extruder body ? if yes, what to check ?
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
maybe test the wiring with a ohm meter first and make sure none of the wires is an open circuit?
Sensor would probably need testing under power which would be somewhat challenging.
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
one other suggestion. check the colors of the wire against the diagram and make sure you have both oriented correctly. if you have the wires reversed at either end that would probably cause an issue
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
Having the same problem. It’s doesnt seem to want to recognize it.
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
I'm having the same trouble. The sensor was working fine right after assembly. Automatic loading worked fine. Now, the filament sensor shows N/A when in Normal mode. I updated to the new b138 drivers, reinserted both connectors, confirmed orientation of the connector, confirmed I was using the lower row of connections, and switched to different known-working wires. Nothing worked and the new self-test verified that the filament sensor failed.
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
Yes, same with new 138 firmware - the self test fails with a "wiring error, filament sensor not found".
Once again reconnected both connectors, measured the wires as well with an ohm-meter and they're not interrupted - still the same 🙁
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
My filament sensor also has never worked. Printer shipped with b137 and didn't work then, still doesn't work on b138. It always reads na no matter what. I have rechecked wire orientation countless times, reseated everything multiple times, checked all wires for continuity and for shorts. Verified power is getting to the sensor with a multimeter. Nothing seems to work. I assume the sensor is DOA since it's never been recognized.

Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
Problem solved with a new filament sensor, quickly shipped after chatting with the support team. Installed in the same position and working great.
For reference, the steps required to change the sensor are:
- unload filament, turn off power (obviously)
- unplug filament sensor cable
- unscrew filament cover (2 short screws on top of extruder body)
- unscrew the extruder tension screws (2 long screws on the left side of the extruder body, with springs)
- unscrew the idler screw (1 long screw on the back side of the extruder body)
- carefully slide out the idler body, be careful not to lose the two teflon shims
- unscrew the filament sensor (1 short screw) and slide it out
- install the new sensor and go back to the first step, one by one 🙂
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
FYI:
Same problem here as mentioned above.
Contacted shop support via chat.
Should get a new sensor soon.
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
Also had the same problem, but for me disconnecting and connecting the 4 pin plug fixed the problem
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
My filament sensor never worked either but I have fixed mine and I thought I would share my mistake to help others and hopefully Prusa will modify the next version of this otherwise brilliant kit to prevent others from making the same mistake in the future.
The filament sensor plug is a 5 way BUT there is room on the board for a 7 way plug because it goes into a socket that wasn't designed for the plug. Because the socket is to large for the plug you can plug it in 1 pin to the left or right and not notice at a glance. If they made the next batch of cables with a 7 pin plug then this mistake is impossible so hopefully they will tweak it.
So anyone who has never got their sensor to work please make sure it is red to the right AND centered correctly.
Good luck everyone and I hope this helps someone else...
Re: Cannot enable filament sensor
I got the same error with the filament sensor. Support had me check the mirror to see if it was broken, which it is not. They are sending me a new one out.
I looked at my circuit board and my connector only has 5 pins on it, so they must have changed it from the 7 pins mentioned above. It has two rows and the pictures show it goes onto the bottom row with the red pin to the outside of the board (which I had set properly). I assume the second row is for a second sensor if a second head is added later on. Not sure though.
