Calibration failed, check axis and run again
I ran the self test (finally) and everything came back ok. (One slight weird thing. X axis check moves, Y axis moves the bed, but Z doesn't move at all.... seems strange to me, but the Self check says ok?)
Also I tried to manually move Z and it seems to move the right Z motor, but the left seems... slower? sluggish?
Anyway, after the self test I tell it to calibrate and it immediately fails. "Calibration failed, check axis and run again"
What does this mean?

Perhaps you turned that black ring close to the motor itself too tight on the left Z-Axis motor?

I am also having trouble with my left Z axis... sometimes sluggish, sometimes won’t move at all. Disassembled and reassembled multiple times now and can’t find anything skewed

I ran into this problem also after doing a firmware update. Have you been able to solve this issue?

I was able to solve the issue by going back and adjusting my hotend. Apparently, I didn’t install it correctly and it was far lower then it was suppose to be. Please double check that your hot end is the proper position!

Same problem here with my new MK3 kit, latest firmware.
Same result whether doing it through the wizard, "Calibrate XYZ", or "Calibrate Z".
Mesh bed leveling works fine.

Ran into this problem just now, I fixed it by jogging the Z up to the top of the frame, where it hits the Z holders. I noticed one of the Z trap nuts, was noticably lower, and adjusted it manually with my hands to the match the height of the other Z trap. Now the calibration is running fine.

Do you just mean that the Z carriage was lower on one rail than the other? That's automatically corrected during the calibration since during Z-homing to the top the routine keeps running until both steppers are skipping. So I'm surprised that fixed it for you.

Yea during the test, it was stopping about a quarter of the way up, I guess the driver's detected some resistance im assuming that one side being lower than the other cause some friction, so the driver's assumed it hit the top and started to come down where it failed when the sensor detected the bed earlier than expected. I thought it was normal behavior for the test to only go part of the way up, till I read more of the manual.

Yes that, exactly that (in hindsight). I was trying to have the X-axis carriage left and right same heigt on the Z-Axis using a ruler but never got higher on Z-axis than 1/4th of the way then it stopped every time during XYZ calibration. Then I discovered the manual Z-Axis move option in the menu, went all the way to the top until motors skipped once and then down et voila XYZ calibration could be done... auto home on Z-axis is still an issue but I'm printing (close to 2 days now almost non-stop and in need for new filament 😀 😀 )

Well I found my issue. I misassembled my extruder by mounting the hotend too low (surprisingly I had several good prints this way, but discovered the issue when I had trouble changing filament). Pretty embarrassing, but anyway I'm glad I found the issue!

This is going to sound like a dumb question, because I feel dumb right now after about 12 hours of insanity (doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results). Why would the hot end being misaligned cause the Z axis to not move?
I'm having this problem too, where the Z axis isn't moving properly. I tried to raise it all the way but it requires manual assistance to move upwards (Which I know will be a problem for printing). --I can't solve this and this is my main concern at the moment.
I'm also having the calibration error, which I think is partially due to the Z axis, but might be the hot end (I'll have to take apart and check).
So I guess I'm asking, is this two separate issues, where one plays into the other? Or is it one over-encompassing issue?

So.. I fixed the Z axis not moving properly. I had to undo and redo the entire black ring thingy.. It looks like it was cross-threaded or something similar.
I'm still having calibration issues.. So time to check the hot end I guess? How can you tell if it's too low? According to the pictures, mine looks right.. but I assume it must not be?

Anyway with my issue (which was quang.n’s issue too apparently) the z axis was moving fine but gave the same error, presumably from having less than expected total length. Clearer error messages would be helpful here but these are all forms of user error so can’t blame Prusa.

I had the same problem and in my case I had put the spool holder facing the front of the printer so the Z-Axis wasn't able to go all the way to the top when calibrating.
Simple fix to change the holder.

i just got this same error. i found what the problem was... i forgot to plug in the pinda probe. yes stupid me. 😳

I think i fount the problem. The last step of the build leaves your extruder down and left. During XYZ calibration, the Z doesnt move and then stay down left, but says ok. Ran it 6 time but failed every time. Sorted it out by turning the printer off, moving Z all the way up and the turning on and restarting the wizard.
