Body extruder melting on pinda support
Yesterday I started printing a 26 hours object using ABS filament then this morning I realized that the printing crashed. I`ve resumed the printing and it crashed again so I discarted it and re-scaled the object to test. Few minutes later and there wasn`t any working sound then and there was also some error message about bad leveling with pinda something like that so I looked to the pinda probe and it was below the extruder totally on horizontal. The pinda probe support on body extruder got melted :/ on the next images I`ve fixed it a lil bit straight
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
First thing you should print in ABS is a new PINDA probe mount. Do the print fan duct while you are at it.
Your enclosure temps with ABS are just pushing it. Shorten the print time if you can; fewer parts, etc.
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
As Rmm has said: this is a known issue. There are R5 versions that help, but printing in PC or ABS is required if printing in an enclosure. If you have access to an SL1, a resin solution is best.
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
Thank you all for the answers, I've downloaded the printing parts stl from https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/ but I've a few questions why do they specify to printe using a black filament? is the infill 20% and the layer height 2mm? any other specifications? other body extruder parts? print some new air duct mod with another fan?
Unfortunately I don't have access to any sl1 printer :/ I'll have to print on my own mk3s that I've "fixed" using the nylon seal to position the pinda probe.
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
I you are going to rebuild the extruder anyways, consider the Bunny Science remix of the extruder to add a more reinforced PINDA mount and replaceable hot fins. It may save you a future repeat https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3645975
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
Black is specified because Prusa uses an optical sensor. Opaque is important.
At least that is my understanding.
RE: Body extruder melting on pinda support
One last detail: the optical nature of PLA is that the IR flag part used in the filament sensor needs to block IR. Not all black PLA is opaque to IR, so it's luck of the draw. Print any color you want, and use a metallic silver paint applied to the flag, that will also work.
