YAC - Yet another cabinet - Housing

Just finished my printer enclosure :

Housing is made of 20x20 Alu-Hex profile, Nut 5 and some acryl-plates. I printed doorhandle and magnetic doorlock.

Not the cheapest way for a housing, but it is worth 😉

Very nice and professional, especially compared to mine. See image.... got an order for large ABS parts and hacked this one together really quickly. Also had a lot of problems with the filament coming off the spool with the original spool holder, this solved that problem also. So basically I used a cardboard box, some wooden building blocks, kitchen towels and painters tape. As you can see there is frost outside but inside the enclosure was about 40-43deg. Celsius. Because the printer is in my veranda the temperature is way to low, I get the "lowbedtemperror" after printing... but I just use a hair dryer to bring the printer back up above the lowtemp error range before printing more. And yes, heatbed remains at 100deg. during printing.

Make it as simple as possible and as complex as required.

Great project which I hope to copy. I can find the extrusion & fixings here in the UK but not sure what the plastic corner covers are called that you used.
Cheers

Knickohr 🙂

Just got materials and started to assemble the housing.
There are a few infos needed before going ahead with the build.

Seems that the plates don't fit into the aluminum-profiles because the corner-parts are in the way.
Did you cut out the corners of the plates?

How did you fix the 15mm ground plate to the alu-profiles?

And do I see it right that you placed four feets below that ground plate?

Some pictures for explanation.

Yes, cut the corner by drilling a hole und break the corner off :

Look at this image :

Correct, I placed 4 feets under the groundplate :

Re: YAC - Yet another cabinet - Housing

Thomas,

I'm near to finish the housing now 🙂
Only missing to finish the magnetic door lock because I can't see in detail how you did this.
I don't mean that printed part, this seems clear.
My question: how did you fix the four 'outer' neodyms to the 3mm Plexiglas door?

BTW, it was not such easy to bring together the four alu profiles, four corners and the bottom plate. Finally done...

Edit:

Still need the info if / or how to fix the outer neodyms to door plate.
While testing the magnets, just setting each single one by hand onto the plexiglas door,
a few more questions came up:
1. Did you fix the Plexiglas plates into the profile-nuts in any way? They rattle a little without the protective layers here.
2. Did you fix the profile corner cases? They are not really fixed here.

Thank you again Thomas for sharing the housing. Very nice of you!
That's my 99,5% finisched copy:

1. I didn't fix it. Just drill a 5mm hole and press it in.
2. Yes, be sure that all magnets have the same "direction" N-S
3. No. But you're right, it rattles a little bit, anyway.
4. No. It has enough force to fit in place.

And 5. Use an angled power cord : http://www.ebay.de/itm/361534595164
Be sure you using a left-sided plug, or rotate the socket in the power supply.

Great looking enclosure! Quick question, how did you attach the magnet to the acrylic door?
