Stepper Motor Damper, Benchy don't lie

Hello folks, I've installed a pair of Astrodyn NEMA 17 stepper motor dampers and have seen a noticeable drop in print quality. So, I printed another Benchy to compare with my first successful print with MK2S completely stock but loud as a banshee. Now it is quiet as a...angry rodent? Anyway, photos are below.

My plan is to design much stronger mountings but these issues may be a casualty of silence. If you have ideas or different experiences, I love to hear how you guys sorted this out.

Looks like these dampers may not be a good idea.

Have you tried this simple thing?

It's supposed to reduce noise and improve print quality by reducing resonances. 🙂
I've got my printer resting on a big concrete paver, which rests on some packing foam. I haven't tried it any other way, but the stepper noise is barely audible over the cooling fan.

Bought one before printer arrived. Please don't misunderstand, I appreciate the recommendation, but I'll list the silencing measures below.

  • Paving stone, coated with truck bed liner and mounted on handball hemispheres

  • Near air tight enclosure able to hold 20°C difference from ambient

  • Astrosyn dampers on all axis

  • Noctua NF-A4x20 break fan
