I've made this enclosure a year ago and it's been working flawlessly, prints are coming out fabulous! I've decided now to share some files so you can build it as well! It's DIY build, which is not that problematic, but takes some time. It's fun job mostly and the most important - end result is fabulous! With RGB strips you get the "showroom-display" effect. 🙂

I have 2x temperature + 2x humidity sensor (printer area+filament area), dehumidifier in filament area, HEPA+carbon exhaust filter, PID regulated vent (RPM vs. temp), fume sensor, 2x relay, EMI input filter, RTC, logging, RGB leds (each LED controlled individually), alarm over wifi. I'm running printer on Octoprint which is not directly connected to enclosure -> I can power RPI and printer via wifi relays. It keeps the dirt out and smell inside 😉 Also the printer is now really really quiet!

Dimensions are modifiable to accommodate MMU for example or some other printers as well. Enclosure is upgradeable, stackable and expandable. You can put multiple enclosures together, or one on top of another.

Wow, really nice!
I'm waiting for my new Mk3 (my first printer) and planning to build an enclosure before the printer arrives.
Therefore I already started a thread in this forum.

Now I have seen you creation and I'm really impressed. Maybe I will take some of your ideas to my enclosure.

Maybe you can upload some more pictures and answer some questions?

1. How are the sensors (temperature, humidity and fume) controlled?

2. What temperature is reached in your enclosure?

3. Do you have the Rambo and PSU inside the enclosure? (If yes, is it cooled?)

4. Is the HEPA and Carbon filter for printing ABS necessary if my printer is in a separate room? Door is closed and I'm only there to get out the finished prints.

Hello!

Thank you so much! Here are the answers for your questions:

- Sensors are controlled via Arduino MEGA which is stacked on the 3" LCD color display. (They COULD be operated via Octoprint enclosure plugin - but I'm investigating that option right now and preparing additional info for all that I got on mailing list (check thingiverse description).

- Temperature that I use for PETG is around 30-35°C and for ABS 40-45°C is great and enough. Without ventilation and with heatbed on 110° the enclosure can go up to 60°C without additional heating, but I dislike running on such high temps if they are unnecessary.

- They are inside the enclosure, like on standard printer, they are not much hotter than usual, I have air intake holes actually nearby (underneath) them, so fresh air kinda flows through.

- HEPA + Carbon are optional, they are there to filter the odor and some particles from ABS, but actually the entire thing would have be even more silent if fan hadn't had that load (HEPA is quite high pressure obstacle). So yeah, you can totally go without the HEPA+Carbon if you have printer in another room or even if you take some air-hose and drive it outside with one-way "valve".

Thank you for the quick response!

So I think I have to put a ventilation to my enclosure (maybe controlled by an arduino to regulate the temperature).

But doesn't the ventilation cause some draft, which is destructive for ABS?

Hey!

Yeah, you got to be careful there. For ventilation you need 2x larger intake area comparing to exhaust area. I got 4 intake holes on the enclosure edges, and one underneath the bed, which is closed usually. That doesn't produce any draft, that would warp the print.

You need to understand that fan is working only a little to maintain desired temperature, when ambient temperature is around 20°C. There is not a lot of ventilation required.

So here is another question. The Mk3 has a built in thermistor for measuring the ambient temperature I think.

Is it possible (maybe on an easy way without much programming skills) to take this value and control the enclosure Fan by the Einsy-Board?

If this question is wrong in this thread, please give me a hint. Then I will start a new one.

I think I cannot help you with this one... I don't know how much output I/O has that board free and how is the software ready for changes...

@stephan.e : No, inlet is NOT filtered as it's not needed to be.

@nikolai.r : I've spent around 300$ including raspberry, ip camera and everything else - except the printer.

$300 for everything is a really good price for what i can see from the picture. Maybe you should think to offer a kit for sale.

Thanks for the info! What size of fan do you use?
I'm not sure if I should use a 120mm one or smaller?
