I did have connected with such cable but went back to USB. Reason? I update printer's FW via Octoprint plugin FW updater and this plugin can't reset einsy via this cable, thus FW update is not possible. USB connection does that.
In any case i don't see much difference in connection - at the end same two RX an TX pins are used on MEGS2560...

The reason I use the cable is I can turn it on and off with one switch.

That's right. To flash the FW you need to reset.
My printer is fixed in an enclosure and the USB port is placed outside the enclosure. There I have connected my Linux laptop, with which I do all the work on the printer (fw compiling, flashing...) and Raspi. GPIO connection speed with Octoprint is 250k baud and stable.
Statt zu klagen, dass wir nicht alles haben, was wir wollen, sollten wir lieber dankbar sein, dass wir nicht alles bekommen, was wir verdienen.
