Re: Make this forum 100% english?

Merv,

You are referring to 'the original posters post' and I hope you will agree with me that there is no reference about 'scrolling' or 'superior'.
I understand why it's divided in two parts, the connection to CZ/Poland etc.. but it feels like I'm missing out on interesting subjects, the English part of the forums are populated by users from the rest of the world, and the spelling/writing isn't perfect all the time, but that doesn't really matter right, we'll understand each other anyway 😀

patrik.r argues to use the English language as a 'Lingua Franca' ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lingua_franca ), an old concept, in general in this forum, because he felt, like I do, that there may be valuable information in the Czech forum that we non-Czech speakers could benefit from.

Whether we like it or not, the de-facto lingua franca of today is English and at least it makes sure that a bigger percentage of the world's population seems to be able to communicate with each other.

Many of the people on this forum are not native English speakers (including patrick.r and myself), hence, this is, for us at least, not a 'lazy' solution as we did have to put in a fair amount of effort to be able to speak your language at a reasonable level.

So, yes, I resent that people, who are arguing to use a 'common language' on these forums to improve the sharing of information are considered to be 'lazy', have 'no point', are called 'fools' and are admonished to be ' grateful that we are allowed to purchase'.

I understand you disagree, but let's be respectful of each other in the discussion.

OMG Joris... Such arrogance like yours and other English speakers knows no bounds, We are talking about scrolling down a few posts to read the English section replies, on a Czech site 3D Printer forum designed by a Czech. Making the effort is too much for some, really? The effort for some to speak English is limited to not scroll down a few posts. Truly? Shame on on you lazy English speakers and posters!!!!! Us natural English speakers will make the effort to scroll down a few posts, to the English speaking section.

I suggest from some comments here from non native English speakers, they know what I am talking about.

Nigel,

The effort for some to speak English is limited to not scroll down a few posts.

I don't think this is the issue in question. I think people are more concerned about missing out on important topics that are in the Czech forum, but not translated into the english forum. There may be important information there that could help newcomers, or even help out non-newcomers.

To be honest, I don't have a strong opinion either way, personally... I just read this thread and thought it looked like there was a little bit of a misunderstanding.

Do you know that you can see the Czech forum in english ? Googletranslate do a decent job, not perfect but good enough so you can see if you are missing information.

If this is your main concern, you can just try that: https://translate.google.fr/translate?sl=cs&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.prusa3d.com%2Fforum%2F%25C4%258Ceske-forum-f3&edit-text=

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

christopher.p,

That's a really great suggestion. I feel like a dummy for not thinking about that. I think that's a pretty decent middle ground.

One thing I want to say though... I think this forum is a public view of how easy it is to have a misunderstanding. I don't think anyone in this thread meant any harm or disrespect. We are all here because of a common love for prusa 3d printers. 🙂 Let's be friends.
