Low profile heatbed cable cover
Hi Folks,
I modified the heatbed cable cover a while back and am finally getting around to posting it. One of the cons about upgrading to the MK2 was that it took up more space (depth) due to the extended movement of the heatbed and the heatbed cable cover routing the cables straight back.
I bought an Ikea Stuva cabinet as my 3D printer enclosure. With the original I3 it allowed for the printer to face forward as long as I removed the LCD frame and moved it to the side.
The increased space required by the MK2 meant I had to have the printer facing sideways in the enclosure. The modified heatbed cable cover now allows me to have the printer facing forward once again. It also seems to have relieved a bit of the stress I was seeing when the bed would move all the way to the back. I will attach some pictures soon.
Just be careful not to pinch or bend power leads soldered to the bed. Hopefully this solves the space issue for others. It is nice having the printer facing forward again.
Re: Low profile heatbed cable cover
Hi Ho
great!!
I was wondering how to sort that cable a little better.
Now I can stop thinking and start printing 😀
Thanks a lot and all the Best
Frank

Cool.. Looks great!
Re: Low profile heatbed cable cover
Awesome thanks man. I will download and try this. Although I have room for the cable it would be nice to get it neatly out the way to the one side. Nice one 😉
Re: Low profile heatbed cable cover
are there any down-sides to this modification?
Just tried that. Filament hole in STL is tad to small, but real problem is collision of cables in extreme x-y positions. Since I'm using these pretty often (my prints often cover whole bed), this was a deal-breaker for me. I ended up rotating printer in my STUVA based enclosure instead.
