Improved fan shroud / nozzle

Hi.

Because some issues with some prints due to only cooling from one side I went to thingiverse on the search for a fan shroud that blows from both sides.

I found this fan shroud on Thingiverse made for the MK2S. https://www.thingiverse.com/make:363410

It blows air from both directions giving more equal cooling conditions on all sides of printed parts.

Have an look at the example video given here:

This shows an circle with high overhang, half of the circle printed fine on stock, while the other half was full of artifacts. With the modified fan shroud it printed fine, also showing an 3dbenchy, and I couldnt find any setbacks there.

I would really incourage the Prusa team to test this out, and maybe make it the new stock fan shroud.

I am thinking a lot about such a kind of fan nozzle which covers 180° / two sides as my benchys tend to have bad overhangs on the backside.

Any other experiences with such noozles?

Done some more prints and its still performing well. I also know others who have printed it and like it.

I suggest you print your own and test it out.

I have printed one of these, and can definitely say that it really does improve bridging and overall print quality!

I too use this on both my printers, but I removed the baffles from the inside and added a small vent at the front. Also raised the left hand side and allowed the fan to sit in deeper. Also moved the internal air splitter to the left to give a more equal air flow.

Unfortunately, I cleaned out my PC a couple of weeks ago and deleted my model.

So I have to re-work it. And I don't have too much free time at the moment. It's on my "To-Do" list...

PLA is not a good idea for a part which is so close to the nozzle!
You should use at least PETG or any PC. I've used Colorfabb Ngen for mine.
ABS is also an option, but I don't like this material.

So I just printed one of these, and it actually doesn't work on my MK2S as a result of the PINDA probe. I'd edit your model, but I'm extremely bad at modeling haha. It looks like this thing ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2276997 ) has been edited to fit the new PINDA mount. Time to attempt to fix yours 😀

EDIT: Tried, failed miserably. If anyone has free time and can actually utilize modeling software well, I would be super appreciative if you could edit this! Ty!

Ah sorry, I have the original probe holder on both my printers and this design fits very well.

How much needs to be taken off the model to accommodate the probe?

Hey!
Not too much needs to be taken off. I actually tried loading the model from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2276997 and your model into tinkercad, they are the same dimensions, the other model just has a cut-out to accomodate the pinda probe. I was going to try to use the thingiverse model as a reference point to make the cut-out. I can try to take measurements with my calipers if you'd like once I get home!

Would this be a good forum thread to ask for input on a 40mm flow fan conversion of the stock pressure blower fan? I'm not happy with the noise and lack of space for modding and was extremely happy with my 40mm upgrade to break fan.
