I started a project a couple of years back along the same lines, but it didn't get very far due to lack of time 🙁
This uses the standard Mk2 parts; the motors (purchased from Banggood, but same lead screw length) are raised to retain the same smooth rods and the lead screw nut is moved to the bottom of the carriages.
Looking at my design again, I don't think the upper brackets are strong enough to have worked.
