Trouble printing with supports

I'm a newbie and am trying to print a model with supports for the first time.   Even though I have Supports set to "Everywhere" it doesn't generate supports for the flat part on the left that you can see here. I tried to print it anyway but of course it failed when it tried to print that horizontal layer with no support.  What am I doing wrong?

Are you unchecking the 'don't support bridges' option?

A 3d printer can print without infill to span(bridge) a gab, you have to test this with a calibration test(temperature test), to see what temperature the bridging can work, play with temperature, and fan control, the setting below does also do something like that.

Try to print with , detect bridging perimeters.

Turn model on his side, then infill will be only on the side of the model, and do not touch the other sides so you do not have measurements problems.

It looks like this was the problem.  It's strange that no support for bridges is the default.  Thank you.
