Stringing // Retraction

New guy

Kit Built Mk3-s

Everything is going super ... except getting this stringing on multiple colors ... mostly silk stock I got from Amazon ... since I'm a noob.

Seems to do better with Prusa filament and SunLu

So, I learned here that this is probably retraction issue ... but where do I start ?
Could test ... but if you can get me started I would appreciate.

Attached is photo and screen cap of the numbers from Prusa Slicer

Typical temps at 215/60
Printing PLA

Thank you all !!

Congrats, and welcome to the club!

Silks are known for being a bit finicky to print with. Starting out, focus on getting good results with "normal" filaments before worrying too much about the specialty types. If you're having fine stringing with all prints, I find that calibrating your extrusion multiplier for each filament has the greatest benefit. Retraction, de-retraction, coasting, wiping and a host of other slicer features are all work arounds to compensate for stringing. They each fix one problem but can introduce others. Fixing the underlying problem that causes stringing in the 1st place can be far more effective.

I've got a lot more notes on the subject here. Just to sum it up: Once I've calibrated my extrusion multiplier, I can use retraction length of 0.2-0.4mm, 0-0.2mm z lift and no wiping with PLA and PETG filament.

You may find that some silks or others are just stringy, and that you'll have to do a bit of cleanup after each print. A quick pass with a heat gun can usually clean up the gossamer strands nicely.

RE: Stringing // Retraction

Make a temp tower, then you see where stringing is the best, after that you can adjust settings for retraction.

Every filament or different company with filament, the settings could be different, you have to do test.
