Setting a maximum speed for first layer stored in the material profile
Hi,
When printing with TPU, I need to reduce the first layer print speed, or the filament wrinkles in the gears and the print fails. This is likely due to the extra pressure required by the Z setting to get a smooth surface.
Is this something that can be stored permanently in the material profile? Each time I do TPU I forget and have to fix the filament mess...
Thanks!

RE: Setting a maximum speed for first layer stored in the material profile
There's not a setting for 1st layer speeds under filament settings, unfortunately. Two options come to mind:
- Create a print settings preset with the lower 1st layer speed specifically for printing with TPU. Not ideal, but you could create one manually that inherits all settings from another preset and only changes the 1st layer speed.
- Add some before or after layer change gcode to your printer settings preset that checks for a TPU preset and the current layer and adjusts speed with M220 accordingly. This is an over-engineered approach, but would let you make filament type specific tweaks that would apply for every print regardless of print or filament presets selected.
If you use OctoPrint, there are some other options you could try.
