recommended PETG settings for MK3 parts

About to start printing all the MK3 parts for my upgrade kit (the full kit from MK2S to MK3). Can someone recommend more specific print settings for PETG? I am changing quite a few things since my printer is going into a custom enclosure, so I do not need many of the parts which rules out me using the downloadable gcode files. (which has all the parts all at the same time) I really wish there was a gcode file for each individual part from Prusa, that way I could print just the pieces that I need. Prusa give very basic settings for the STL files, "Recommended print settings:
0.2 mm layer height, infill 20% GRID and material PETG" This is not much help! 🙁

Have you printed anything in PETG yet? If not give it a go with the std PETG slicer settings and share your results. If yes, I don't think there is any magic sauce required for those parts.

I think there have been a few threads on this, but the most important thing is they're using at least .3 layers iirc.

I'd say at least 4 shells with 30%+, and hotter+slower will yield a stronger part with any type of filament.

Sorry, just wondering why you would print at anything worse than 0.2 for this?

On the site ( https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/ ) it says:

Recommended print settings:
0.2 mm layer height, infill 20% GRID and material PETG.

The ones I printed seem fine, but I did have to lower the extrusion multiplier to 0.94 to make the holes a bit less tight. Otherwise, I break the parts trying to insert rods.

Thanks for all the quick replies!

I looked through the STL files and noticed a lot of parts look like they will need support. Nowhere does it mention this.

Also is the orientation correct? Some of them would seem to print better if the orientation was changed.

I have very little experience with PETG. 95% of everything I print is ABS, and I bought a filament brand that I have never used before specifically for the color (looks exactly like green antifreeze: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6WENG6 ) It gets good reviews, so we'll see what happens.

I know the extruder housing has to be black. Can it be ABS? I already have tons of black ABS...

They only print the cooling fan shroud in ABS. BTW - I printed all my parts and did not use ANY supports. You may have to rotate a few parts IIRC but no supports were used.

As for doing all the parts in ABS, Prusa does not recommend it but hey, its your parts. You will have to scale a bit to address the ABS shrinkage issue.

worse? bigger layers = stronger part, to a certain extent.

none of their printed parts are very pretty, thats plain to see.

You OBVIOUSLY did not read my posts very well.
1. The title of the post is PETG settings
2. I gave specifics on the actual PETG filament I plan to use (via link)
3. I asked if I could print the extruder housing from ABS, nothing else.

Would've thought dimensional accuracy would outweigh any strength gains. I have noticed things go off a bit once you print greater than 0.2.

it does depend on so many other variables though, but I imagine with a print farm producing hundreds of pieces a day under controlled conditions they have much more consistency than you or I would.

Many of the parts and installation procedures are designed to minimize that effect as well, ie: the manual has you running the bed back and forth in the Y direction to align the bearings/holders with the smooth rods before tightening them down. The self test procedure is there to measure the axes in case something is really out of whack, and everything else can be calibrated out.

Let's hope so 😉

Well I am absolutely blown away with how well these MK3 upgrade parts turned out! These parts are literally right off the printer and no cleanup whatsoever!

MK2S
Yoyi Green-05 PETG (this stuff is freakin awesome!)
235c/90c
.2mm
30% grid infill
no support
no cooling fan! (tried it with the fan and got a stupid thermal runaway error as usual)
50mm/s

Re: recommended PETG settings for MK3 parts

I used exactly your settings for YoYi Blue PETG and got the best results every. Also, no rework, just a couple strings. The only change I made was Fan OFF for layer 1, and Fan 100% for the rest of the print.

P.S. I know this is a necropost, but this is the best advice I've found for Mk3 PETG settings and wanted to confirm them for anyone else looking.

Thanks,
Dave Smith
