Question rg. supports
Hi all,
i would like to print the case on the picture with "track" for the cover. The slicer now wants to print supports from the base of the case up to the track. Wouldn't it be better to have support just within the track?
Also i don't think i need support for the <===> openings on the sides. The angle of the triangle is 60°.
How would you do it.
Thanks
RE: Question rg. supports
At the moment you cant as Prusa Slicers support is very aggressive with regards to expansion outwards to support items.
You can use blockers to stop it adding support for the triangles though as it stands at the moment but the track you cant do much about. You could try adding a support enforcer to the tiniest thin line deep in the track as you can get and set the support spacing low so that it doesnt grow too much but I dont think that will work. If you post the part we could experiment and see though.
However there is good news. The current dev version of PS is having quite a few improvements to supports it seems. I have seen posts on github with the results of 'snug supports' which looks like it will limit the growth outwards. Not sure when that will get a final release but the code is available if you can build it yourself. That usually means a alpha or beta build isnt too far off in the future. Might be better to wait if you really want to use PS to slice it.

@neophyl
thanks a lot for your answer. I attached the stl file.

Maybe i'll try the blockers and have to live with the rest 😉
RE: Question rg. supports
It does work by setting the enforcers to be really small but it sure is a pain in the rear getting them correct.
Here is the support enforcer painted on to just be on a tiny edge of the track, in the corner basically, just a small section edited. (you have to use the clipping view function to see into that area to modify it.
And here is the support it generates.
I also edited the support spacing and made the interface layers 4. I've attached the project so you can see what I did and slice it yourself.
RE: Question rg. supports
There's a way to mod that design so it can be printed with no supports. I would suggest deleting the skinny part that the lid would slide into. Just cut it completely out. The lid will still slide in, and your print will print well with no supports if you do something like:
bridging fan speed 80%
Detect bridging perimeters on
Bridging angle 90 degrees
You will never know the missing skinny pain in the butt piece was ever in the design.
RE: Question rg. supports
thanks to both of you. I'll try it 😉
