Problems with medium size prints
I don’t have any issues with printing small items like chess pieces or a whistle. However, as soon as I try something a bit bigger, I get into problems. For many layers, the print would look perfect but then all of a sudden, a line of filament would not stick right and lifts off the print causing subsequent layers to mess up. The surface gets bumpy. Sometimes this self corrects with more layers on top or other times it would get worse and I stop the print.
I also started printing with supports and the thin support layers fall apart and cause a mess.
My 1st layer looks fine and given these issues all happen 1/3 or more the way in, I’m guessing that’s not an issue. What’s causing random subsequent layers to not stick and get stringy (and it’s usually just a single line of filament that messes everything else up)? I am using default Prusa presets, latest firmware, and using Prusa filament. My belt tension are 235 on x-axis and 260 on y-axis. Z offset is -1.450.
Should I lower my nozzle temperature below 215 to help with stringing and lines of filament not adhering to previous layers?

One thing I might suggest is a good rigorous Z calibration, paying attention to any left/right and/or front/rear correction that may need to be made to get things more closely dialed in.
Just use any of various 3x3 single-layer test prints.
All nine of the squares should show the same degree of 'squish' and the same texture on the surface. If not, corrections for left/right and/or front/rear can be made via the front panel.
This is, of course, assuming that the build plate is always squeaky clean and that the internal Z calibration is spot on before you try such a test print.

The image of his first layer is gorgeous. I thinking possibly hes printing PETG with PLA setings.

Yes, that would definitely cause issues.

I thought it was PLA … it was what came with the machine but now that you got me suspicious, this spool is in fact PETG!

It happens, your not the first. Now you know you have a great first layer for PETG, and I'll bet you read the rolls before loading from now on 😉

Yes, I have, here. Several times now.

LOL All I can say is, I haven't done it yet, but I certainly wouldn't put it past myself. Give me about 5 more years and someones going to have to remind me what my name is, and tell me to pull my zipper up.
It's all fun and games until you cant remember the kids names.
