Prints failing at some Z position

Hi All,

My printer (prusa i3 mk3s with the MMU2S) has been working great for the most part, but every now and then I try to print something and it stops printing at some layer.

Up until that layer, everything is fine, the printer prints as normal. Once it hits the layer however, the filament stops advancing entirely, but the print head continues as though nothing has gone wrong. I've attached a few pictures to show what I mean. The two prints are both exactly the same (same G code). The filament stopped suddenly causing only little droplets to be deposited on the incomplete model.

After I stop the print and remove the filament, I can see that there are carved out radii from where it sat on the feeder gears in the print head. There is also a similar carved out radius up where the filament was in the MMU.

Since both prints failed at the same Z position, this seems like a slicer issue to me. Has anyone experienced anything like this in the past? Is it something I'm doing wrong or is it an issue with my printer or slicer?

I'm using Slic3rPE, and I've had this problem occur on files sliced from two separate computers (same SD card, same printer).

I can post additional information about my setup if anyone needs it

Search the forum for NOZZLE JAM ... lots of info.

If your unloaded filament looks like this,  search for HEAT BREAK JAM ...

Hi Tim,

I managed to solve my issue, I think it was something with a corrupted G-Code file and a bad Slic3r install, but now I have a new problem.

My filament isn't able to retract at all and I think it's the "Heat break jam" you mentioned. The filament tip looks exactly like in your first picture. Can you point me towards what information might be helpful? I've googled heat break jam and most of the information is saying that I should buy a different heat break, but I've also seen things saying that the current heat break is necessary for the MMU2S, which I have and use.

I'm a little lost on how to fix this issue or find information related to it.

Thanks
