absolutely to fish.  The price of beads used in fishing has gone through the roof, so I now print my own.  The Prusa Orange is highly UV light reflective - and UV light penetrates deeper in the water (30 meters or more) than the human visible spectrum.  Most fish see UV better than we do - so using UV reflective colors is effective at making lures more attractive to fish.

Cool.  It has been years since I went fishing.  I used to use these little fish eggs for trout.  They were often brightly colored.

I now have dozens of different lures printed from my own patterns on my etsy shop - browndogfishing

Beads are used in rigging the hooks, as lure bodies (stacks of different sizes), and as bearings to allow free spinning parts to move better.

Chuck have you tried Atomic Filaments clear PETG filament?  I just ordered a spool to try them out.

No.  It is on my list.  I have a roll of California Filament on the way!  I just started Fusion Filaments Natural.

I would have never thought to print lures.  It makes sense.  I might have to print some this summer to go fishing on my pond.

When you get ready there's a bunch of different lures that people have posted on thingiverse.  I have printed a few for personal use - but most of them have a "no commercial use" license clause so I can't sell them.  Over time I figured out how to compose lures in ways that are both easy to print and then tune them so the finish-prep, rigging hooks etc are easier for me.  The more time I can shave off of the post-print the less I can offer them for in the shop.  so far, the only design program I use is 3D builder.

a "no commercial use" license clause so I can't sell them.

That doesn't mean you can't sell them, it is effectively an invitation to make the designer an offer ... if you want to sell them contact the designer and negotiate a contract whereby you pay a royalty fee per print, or you might buy the copyright outright, or for a limited period.  You decide what you want, work out what it's worth to you and start messaging.

The designer is saying: "Here's a thing. Feel free to make one for yourself but if you plan to get rich with them I want a cut."

Otoh, like almost all fishing tackle, most lures offered on line are designed to catch fishermen, not fish.  I'd go so far as to suggest that half of the lure designs offered on Thingiverse have never been tied to a line let alone caught a fish.  As an extension of the general Thingiverse rule of thumb I wouldn't bother even to print a lure that wasn't pictured with a catch, preferably several.

Cheerio,

If I were challenged in designing my own, I would follow that path.  Right now my sales volumes are nearly unmeasurable, and the lures I'm designing (which all have seen the water in multiple rounds of test/revise/test) until they start catching fish, and then I test them and revise them until they are irresistable to fish if I can.

Good points and you probably should not sell them.  Ethics!

I’m so glad to have found this thread as I’ve been struggling with this same issue for an otherwise great print.  Thanks for documenting the steps with photos and to Dan and all who helped.  I’m excited to implement this and hopefully pull off a successful print with ASA. If I do, I think I have my perfect/preferred filament! 😊🙏

Hello again. I've tried the X pattern, but seem to still get warping with ASA. Would any of you mind please giving me some feedback to solve my problem?

Here are some pics.
Build plate bending

Attempts with slight improvements

Print with the X patterns, yet I'm still getting warping.

Print with X patterns 2

I'm using a Bambu X1 Carbon and I know this is a Prusa group, but this thread is the only one that I found where real solutions have been found for this issue.
Thanks in advance of any help!
