Print gets bigger the higher it comes
Good mornig,
yesterday I had my first ABS print with my MK3. I've put the printer in the well known Ikea shelf and the print itself went smooth without any noticeable warping.
But when it was finished some hours later I wait for everything to cool down and pealed the object of from the build plate.
What I noticed now is - sorry I've no fotos yet, that the print became bigger in the upper layers.
What I mean is, the original drawn object is a rectangular pipe, with 1 cm bottom thickness and 1 cm upper thickness. But what cam out was 10mm at the bottom and 12mm in the upper layer 😯
What might be causing that? Can someone guide me please?
Thanks,
Michael
Re: Print gets bigger the higher it comes
Just a guess, but ABS is considered hygroscopic. I don't know why it would absorb moisture at only one end, unless it's because the bottom was still anchored to the plate.
That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

Yes it was connected to the build plate over night, printing stopped yesterday evening.
Do you think, I should remove the object as soon as printing is finished?

❓ Let me put it this way... I think it's a theory worth investigating/testing.
If there's anything to it, it might even be worth designing a special test object. There are quite a few test objects on Thingiverse--I don't know if any of them test for this particular thing or not.

I'll start another print this evening and will remove it when it is completed as soon as I can touch the build plate some how. I'll let you know what happened then.
Thanks so far,
Michael
Re: Print gets bigger the higher it comes
Hi I can give the feedback that was the hygroscopic effect on ABS. During the day the model normalized and everything was fine 😉
So the printed model should be removed as soon as it was printed.
