Print Consistently Failing Due To Jams - Any Suggestions?

Hi all,

I've been having quite a lot of fun with my printer since getting it early in the year, but I've recently been struggling with one print in particular.

Every time I set the print pictured below going, it always fails with a jammed hot end at about the same point (several layers above the hex bases).

Initially, I suspected that it might be the filament itself causing the jam, but I have tried three different PLAs (2 from Prusa, 1 from AMZ3D) and one of ColorFabb's NGEN's. However, all plastics have failed at the same point.

I have then dismantled the extruder and stripped the hotend down to see if there were any obvious issues. I couldn't find any and took the opportunity to also replace the PTFE tube in the hotend, but got the same result.

This has led me to believe that I might need to change some settings in Slic3r but to be honest, I don't know what would need changing that might help fix this.

Could it be something to do with the number or speed of retractions? Or the ramming speed? Any thoughts or ideas will be welcome!

For reference, this print has failed on all of the last 3 firmware versions. Printer is currently on 3.5.0.

There's a thread on the extruder idler gear shaft not being long enough and it allows the idler to flex - causing the impression of a filament jam. I think folks report hearing clicking when this happens. Anyway - do a search or try this one:

is your PTFE tube in tight? can you print it at 200%

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

tim.m30 - My search foo has clearly failed me in this case. I'd not been able to find anything regarding the gear shaft issue, but I'll be honest, I think the last time I checked the forums for a solution was probably before that video was posted. I'll let my printer finish its current print and then I'll take a look at the shaft.

toaf - The PTFE tube is very well inserted, so I don't think that's the issue, but I'll try the print at 200% speed (I'm assuming that's what you mean), and see if the same thing happens.

Cheers for the suggestions guys!
