PiP Clearance? And general fine-tuning tips?
New to 3D printing, wanna start getting my printer as dialed in as possible. I plan on making my own clearance test (Was thinking a 5 point star with a PiP joint at each point, and decreasing tolerances around the star to see how little of a gap I can leave and still have the part function.
My question is... What's a realistic good number to shoot for? I don't plan on printing anything too crazy, and I know when it comes to tuning your printer you could spend years trying to hone in on some of the finer tolerances... But, a lot of that is diminishing returns (The finer tuned your printer is, the more calculations you have to do for smaller adjustments) so from people with some experience... What seems to be a good "starting" calibration in terms of clearance?
Also, does anyone have any good tips for tuning the I3 MK3S+? I've been watching youtube videos but it seems like most of them are meant for the ender printers and focus around the manual bed leveling 🙁
For pip dial up the elephant's foot compensation or design a reduced first layer in CAD. You should have no trouble at half the extrusion width clearance and depending on the part you might get down to a quarter, so with a 0.4mm nozzle begin with 0.25mm...
...eventually you *might* get close to 0.1mm.

Yes. Stick to the slicer's default setting for the first few weeks.
After the machine has run-in and you've been through a regular maintenance cycle your prints will be more predictable and tolerances can get closer.
Cheerio,
