PINDA hitting curled edges

The perimeters are curling up and then the PINDA is hitting, bumping the model off the pplater. Yes, it is a very flat curve.

Variable layer height on the flat curve?

Fan speed?

Temp?

Please help.

RE: PINDA hitting curled edges

That posted 3mf file model does not match the picture you posted with the edges curling up.  Try posting the same model as what you pictured.  The file shows a complete closed hollow egg but that picture has ribs along with infill in all of the middle.

As a general rule its unusual for pla to curl up significantly, but if it is doing so then reducing the fan speed would help, generally PLA unless on a steep overhang or bridge doesn't really need 100% fan speed anyway and as bridging gets its own fan setting you could safely drop this down.  Also slowing things down in general speed wise can also help.

You could also try a different brand of PLA.

Thanks, I'll try your suggestions.

The .3mf is the same as the photo.

The photo is at about layers #30-35 of the .3mf in sliced preview mode.

Sorry, so sorry.

This is the correct .3mf.

Too much going on right now.

Now that model matches the pic 🙂  and Wow that's some model.  Don't know when I can fit that in but I might have a go at printing that myself.

Not sure how well it will print though as quite a few of the outer parts of the gyroid infill aren't connected to anything, basically some of the sections that would normally connect the infill to the perimeter wall are floating in air.  In  fact all of the gyroid at layer 19 where it starts isnt connected to anything.

Id also change the perimeters to 3 on the outer section that is curling up.  In effect with 5 you basically have solid plastic and I suspect that is pumping in way too much heat into the area which is contributing to the curl effect as it cools down.  3 perimeters will still be plenty strong enough.

Here are some failures, shown upside down for some reason(?). And before I scaled out the infill to merger with the ribs.

The standalone ribs weren't stiff enough to take the nozzle/filament without moving.

Make a big brim attache to the model, then it sticks better to the bed.

Clean bed with dish soap, a few times.

Do a 100% good first layer, this also helps to sticks.

Try to print with more heat, petg did also curl, and more heat helps.

You could also try to go slower.

@peter-m26

None of those except maybe going slower will help for this issue.  It is not a case of bed adhesion at all, it is contracting plastic further up the model where the edges are thin from the overhangs that are curling up.

Simply changed filament, Prusa (not Prusament) Azure Blue. And modified the overhang on the bottom ever so slightly. Works like a charm. I continue to be awed by Prusa (except the Mini project).

There was much rib movement as the print got higher. I will next increase the cross section of the rib.

Thanks for your help.

How does one Add Media without inverting the image? Can I control that as I am inserting the pic?

I tried to upload a zipped video of the rib movement but file size is to big. How do I get around that?

RE: PINDA hitting curled edges

I think the forum uses the data from your pic, so if you took it with a phone then it might be storing the angle data.  I did see on another post where the member was having the same issue (but 90 degrees off) , he opened them in some other software first and re-saved them, after that it posted alright.  I find Paint.net if you are on windows great for stuff like that, its free 🙂

I can see where the layers start to jiggle about and offset as it moves up.  From a structural standpoint adding a thinner rib on the inside of each upright of the egg  to give a T cross section would make them structurally stronger without making the apparent size when viewed from the exterior any different.  If you put the infill back I don't think you would be able to tell.  I'm curious what software you are using to generate it.

Ah, yes, the top of a tee added to the inside of the rib.

Solidworks. I'll have to give some thought to how to add the tee top.

In the past I have just added a reversed set of twisted ribs. That was great support. But now I want to keep the ribs minimal so more of the infill shows.
