PETG Temperature Question

Hello there,

So I have been getting quite a bit of stringing while using Prusament PETG and the default profile. I just printed a temperature tower, with some built in stringing tests and I see a little stringing at 240 degrees, and next to nothing at 225 degrees. The default profile seems to start at 240 for the first layers then jump up to 250 for printing.

Would I see any issues if I made a new PETG profile that started more around 225 and maybe went up to 230 or 235 while printing? Would the part be weaker, or have any other issues?

It just seems strange to me changing the temp nearly 30 degrees from the default.

RE: PETG Temperature Question

On the box of every filament you find temperature settings high to low, all these you can use and try.

All filament is not the same, and there are less good(a little) filament that leaves production, so you have to test.

RE: PETG Temperature Question

I have sort of accepted stringing with PETG as the price of doing business. Ultimately all you need is a quick (careful) pass with a hot air gun. I only use Prusament (but not on a Prusa) and I use similar values to their recommended for Mk3, 240C first layer 250C subsequent.

RE: PETG Temperature Question

I ran out of my first spool of PETG the other day in the middle of a print.  I changed to a new spool of a different brand, and since then have had no end of problems.  Printing the base layer looks good for a while, then it forms balls that cause crashes and pull up the base layer.

Are there differences between brands of filament, and how do I get this to print again.  To test, I have done a couple of prints with ABS and PLA that were ok.  I tried to re calibrate first layer and that seems to work, but the print keeps failing on the first or second layer.

Thanks

@sledjunk

"the base layer looks good for a while, then it forms balls" slow down/increase Z/something else (that a savvy 3d person will suggest).
