PETG (Sunlu) warping off bed

Hi all,

I recently assembled my MK3s and had no trouble printing with the bundled PLA. I then bought a lot of PETG (Sunlu) and started printing parts for the V2 MK3s/MMU2s enclosure. With the smaller parts, I had small warping problems, with some corners ever so slighty getting pulled off the bed. Now I need to print a long piece, which will substitute the PSU, which I'll be placing outside of the enclose, and the warping effect is too strong to ignore it, I'm afraid it might skew the frame insteat of stablizing it.
I have tried different nozzle and bed temperatures and glue on the bed but with no success so far. The first layer looks good and everything is fine for the first 3-4 mm/15-20 layers, and then if gets pulled off the bed.

Has anyone else used this manufacturer's PETG with more success? There seem to be different PETG products by Sunlu, the one I have says it should be printed at 200-220 degrees celcius with no heatbed required. I have tried everything from 200 to 240 and the warping issue remains. I have also tried different bed temperatures, from 70 to 90. For all other settings I use the configuration that comes with the downloads for the prusa v2 enclosure. I have also heated up the room to 23 degrees and made sure there are no drafts of air reaching the printer.

Thank you in advance for any tipps!

Best,
Marcel/Klesst

I used Hatchbox and eSun PETG and occasionally have problems with corners warping up. My solution is to add a brim.

This only my opinion…I think a brim does two things. 1. Reduces the temperature differential between the part and the open bed; 2. Provide a bit more “hold down” force on the part edge.

Brim will help.  I also needed to get bed 100% clear of PLA residue.  Alcohol alone wouldn't do it.  Got some acetone and that did the trick.  Now problem is PETG sticks TOO well.  Have to print over thin layer of glue stick.

I dinged my bed printing a part following an acetone cleaning and then trying to remove it.

For PETG I now do a dish soap cleaning of the bed every 2-3 months and Windex every few prints.  Between prints I just wipe the bed down with a clean, lint free, cloth. Little parts can wtill be a bit tough to remove but larger ones pop off with just a bit of bed bending in both directions.

The cloth wipe down is a take of Joan's use of a bit of forehead oil on the bed for PETG but my case, from my fingers when removing parts. The cloth just distributes it as a very thin coat over the bed.

Hi Jerry, hi Clayton,

Thanks for the advice! Adding a brim and a more intense cleaning of the bed helped!

Best,
Marcel

@marcel-sieslack

Works every time for me.  It is amazing how often it is a bad first layer (too high or too low) or a dirty bed.
