PETG on large surface prints

I am printing some boxes that have a surface area nearly the size of the bed, and I encountered a problem that befuddled me;  I started a new print and everything worked fine.  I have attached a photo that shows the corner of the print where you can see that it is laying down the first layer after the infill layers.  The entire remainder of the bed is the ugly stuff.

Today this problem occurred again.  I canceled the print and am now printing the same gcode without apparent problems, so far.  I have no idea what occurred here.  It looks like severe under extrusion to my naive eyes, but no idea would cause this.  Any advice is appreciated.

Cold pull?

RE:

+1 for partial nozzle blockage or reduce print speed on the problematic layers. Given that you were able to print this earlier either something has changed or you do infact have a partial nozzle block.

RE: PETG on large surface prints

Thank you.  This morning I showed it to a friend and he immediately said I had a partial nozzle obstruction.  Interestingly, after removing the bad print, I started a new print but first extruded enough filament to assure that I only had ONE single strand.  It then printed the five hour print without problems.  Of course, I was sitting next to it so the poltergeist in the nozzle probably decided to stay quiet.

This makes me think there is not a block, right now, but that something occurs sporadically during a print that could cause a partial block.  I am printing at 250 C;  the printer settings are already pretty slow.  What can I do to reduce chances of this happening again?  Should I print hotter?  The Overture PETG has a label with an upper temperature of 250;  I am using this temperature because it worked well with Prusament and also looked best when I did a temperature tower.

Sound like the blockage cleared itself. Unless you have reason to believe that nozzle temperature is being under reported, personally I wouldn't exceed max filament temp.
