PETG Filament Recomendations ?
Been printing mainly with pla and abs on my old printer, but just started to use petg quite a bit more now that i have the mk3s.
Looking for a decent filament, and don't mind paying a bit extra for the quality.
Suggestions please?
RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
I've had very good luck with the Reprapper PETg filament, as well as Prusa.
RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
Awesome question that I wanted to ask also.
I've been sticking with PETG from Prusa for now as I don't know who else to buy from. Prompt, for these Covid times, delivery to the USA, about a week's time or so.
I could use PETG colors that Prusa does not have though.
RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
LOL, I don't see an edit for my above post.
I've purchased from Prusa: Clear, Neon Green Clear, Shiny Black, Coffee Bronze and Froggy Gold PETG. Coffee Bronze and Froggy Gold are nearly identical. At this second I'd go with Froggy Gold if I were were wanting a bronze.
From my brief experience, clean the nozzle with a brass wire brush b4 printing PETG. I've gotten dark, burnt inclusions when printing the neon green clear.
I now print at 40mm/s with my I3 Mk3. 2mm retraction. I get some slight wispies, but not terrible.
Best wishes!

Add to those (Prusa, Reprapper) I've had good luck with, Hatchbox PETg.
I like the brand in general, and I was able to get a roll of Hatchbox white PETg from one of the usual suspects.
Performed flawlessly! No stringing. Sticks very well. Relatively easy to remove.

Where do you live? Australia, Europe, North America,... Availability and costs differ a lot based on the location.

Filaprint ( https://shop.3dfilaprint.com/ ) sell a wide range of samples, you could try a range of filament and find one (or more!) that work well. I know several people who recommend https://www.3djake.uk/ filaments but I don't have any personal experience.
RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
Any USA available recommendations for metallic PETG filaments? I'm looking for quality silver and gold for a steampunk look.
MatterHackers has a silver in their budget Build line. I'm not familiar with MatterHackers or most filament makers.

RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
I haven't used any PETg metallics, but for a steampunk-ish look, I would recommend the Copper, Gold and Silver metallic PLA from Mika3d, as I used in this almost-working movement that is one of my back-burner projects.
I've also had good luck with the Hatchbox silver ABS, which I was given about 1/2 of a spool of.
All of these are available on Amazon in the US.

Thanks! That is lovely!
Maybe something I'll regret, but I want to abandon PLA. It always seemed too brittle and can't handle much heat, like being left in the car.

Nice!!!
RE: PETG Filament Recomendations ?
Thanks for the compliments, everyone. That device is still unfinished, as I'm trying to get the right stepper motor and the right timing to get it to run reliably and start every time. It's also missing a few mostly cosmetic pieces. It's not my own design, I found it on one of the 3d sites a couple of months ago.
I hear you WRT the hot car and PLA. On one of the boards (here?) somebody recently said 'PETg is the new PLA', meaning some or many who have been using PLA as their main filament are migrating to PETg.
When my last spool of white PLA started running low, I ordered instead a spool of Hatchbox white PETg, and I'm now using it where I would normally use PLA.
So far it's going well. I'm adding one section to a previous project (the model railroad El station) and where white PLA was used I'm using the white PETg and so far in the process it seems to print well and match the original, which was Hatchbox white PLA.
Yes, PETg is a bit more stringy and oozy than PLA. On the other hand it seems to stick better.
There does seem to be better availability and a wider selection of colors in PLA, so I doubt that I will totally abandon it.

Hi,
If you are in the US, I have been slowly narrowing my preferred brand to Inland in both PETG and PLA. Inland is the house brand from Micro Center. The PETG has very minor to no stringing and prints easily. The PLA is the easiest I've ever used.
My second choice has been ZylTech brand. But I think their PETG is moderately stringy. I do like their PLA.

(Sorry for hijacking the filament thread)
It's really not mine, I got it from one of the 'usual suspect' 3d print sites some time ago. It's basically a watch/clock type movement. The original builder said that he had trouble getting it to reliably 'tick', so I figured I would give it a try. The springs are actually 3d printed, and the first thing I did was to give the main balance wheel more mass by including some screws in it. This enabled it to reliably run when I gave it a spin to start and gave it a constant manual force by hand in the correct direction. However, I ran into some issues when trying to get it to run using the stepper motor. The motor the author used just did not have the speed to give it enough 'oomph', even when driven in the tightest loop in the program, so I was able to find a similar motor with a higher gearing. Alas, the motor I ordered/got has 12 volt coils and not 5, so this is where I am right now. I either have to add a 12 volt supply to the stepper driver (do-able) or find a motor of that gearing that runs on 5 volts.
When I get some time my next step is to use a 12 volt bench supply to try to get the new stepper motor to run it consistently.
The trick to getting the thing to start ticking is to programmatically start it by rocking it back and forth with the stepper, increasing the degree of rock, getting the balance wheel going back and forth more and more, and then starting to introduce a forward motion. That's where I run into trouble. The motor the author used is just not keeping up with what the mechanism expects and the motion of the balance wheel decays and stops.
The thing is called 'TT Furious', and if you google (or DDG) it, you will most likely find it. It's on one of the common 3d sites but I forget which.

I'm not sure about the colors you are looking for, but I use Atomic Filament PETG 99% of the time. They have been really good answering any questions I've had. Also they offer free shipping, most of the time it's arrived in two days. Below are a few reasons I like using them...
"Our pigments are specially formulated with 3D printing in mind. They contain no high melt point additives, waxes or fillers. This results in superior print quality and consistent performanceacross all colors"
"All filaments are produced using state of the art equipment and process controls, undergoing rigorous testing and quality control. Our filaments maintain +/- 0.02mm dimensional tolerance to ensure excellent prints for your most demanding jobs"
"We are not re-sellers or importers. We proudly make our product in our Indiana USA facility using only American-made supplies where possible"
