Perimeters not printing correctly

Hopefully I can explain this clearly and understandably. When I print this model the printer introduces a step  on the perimeter which means there is a gap around the edge of the part.

Here is the sliced first layer:

this is the top of the print:

This is the bottom of the print:

Hopefully you can see that (at the bottom of the image) the perimeter has a step in it and it is printing consistently some distance from the infill. At the top of the image the perimeter extends too far before turning.

The 'dovetail' connector was created with the prusaslicer split tool.

The part was sliced in PrusaSlicer-2.7.0 (I will test with 2.7.1)

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening, and how I might fix it? I have tried slowing down the outer perimeters and re-oriented the part but the error remains

FIXED!

It tuned out that the Y axis pully was loose on the stepper motor shaft. At first it was only noticeable with this particular part (I managed to print other items without any obvious errors).

Over the past week, while trying to trouble shoot it prints started to get even worse, and I got Y axis crash detection errors. which led me to the solution.
