Is there a feature to cut a piece into two parts WITH ALIGNMENT BITS

In PrusaSlicer, there is a feature to cut an object into pieces for ease of printing. However, we then have to glue the parts together.

Is there also a feature to say, put a cube cutout into each of the faces, and then print a cube (or some other shape, biscuit, oval, etc) so that we can easily align the pieces when we put them together?

I don't think so? I've never seen or heard of such a thing at least.

That's not to say it would be impossible to do in PrusaSlicer using the basic shapes they allow you add and subtract from a model. I would imagine it could take some trial and error though.

It’s available in the 2.6 alpha development versions on GitHub. Still has a few niggles though but you can download it to try it out without it effecting your release version install.

Actually you can do it in the current version (2.5.0), it takes a bit of work  but you can do as follows:

Before you cut, add a negative volume (box shape) to the object. Select the new box and change the dimensions to a pin shape (5x5x20 or so or don't if you prefer cube shape). Move it to the correct position in the object (you can slice and use the layer slider to check the correct position within the object). Add a second or third (if needed) by duplicating the pin (use copy and paste and only move the copy in x/y direction). Now perform the cut (use undo and move the cut to the right position), you will end up with two parts and corresponding rectangular holes. Just add suitable pins to the project (don't forget to add a little tolerance) by adding box shaped objects and resize them.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Find out why this is pinned in the general section!

Wow.  Nice method !

So it’s.
1. Select shape/object for pin.

2. place on platter in correct number

3. duplicate and add as negative space in object at correct height.

4. Then cut object.

5. Now I will have the correct holes in the object to provide match lines, and the parts needed to insert.

6. Do we need to shrink the parts 1% to provide some tolerance?

Or you can incorporate the pin into one part of the object:

Load object

Right click on object, add negative volume eg., cylinder

Position negative volume where you want the key/keyway and size to taste

Cut

You will probably need to rotate the UPPER part.

You now have two segments and two negative volumes as before.

Select one of the negative volumes, right click and change type to Part.

Resize the part in place (use the Part manipulation pane) to allow tolerance...

and slice.

Cheerio,

I too would like to be able to take a mandalorian helmet and avoid all of that support material and slice the helmet in half. I've done so and would like to also pin it together. If the model that's imported could be made translucent like you can do in freecad model you could add a modifier to subtract and position it where you would like how long where you're going to cut. I don't know how to make the model translucent but I'm going to trial and error to the same size cylinders and move them to what I'm a proximating to be my cut line. I don't know if this work around and help you with something I'm going to try. If you know anything about making the model translucent that would make it a heck of a site easier. Hope this helps.
