filament working then not
I have a problem with my MK3 printer .... or the filament, I don't know :
I used the grey prusament given with the printer, and everything was perfect. Then i swich with other color (still prusament PLA), still no problem.
But then I switch back to the grey filament (i didn't use it during ... 2-3 weeks), and now, my print are fucked up (extrusion problem, sometimes *clic* noise), but if I do the exact same print with an other color, it's perfect .... I've clean my printer, check each element (fan, cog, clean the extruder, check each part of the feeder, ... ) but stile the same problem with that filament ...
I keep all my filament in a normal room, classic temperature .... Do I have to do something special with my filament ? Is it possible that some part of the coil are ... I don't know, wrongly done ?
I'm relatively new in the 3d printing world so I don't know if it is a classical problem or not .....
Re: filament working then not
Filament must be kept stored in the air-tight bags with desiccant. If you don't store the spools this way most plastics absorb moisture from the air. Moisture boils out of the plastic when the filament enters the nozzle, and causes all types of problems. But two weeks probably isn't enough time for there to be a problem like this, unless you are in a swamp or very damp house with humidifiers running 24/7.
The other possibility is handling. Finger prints on a spool are contaminants that also cause printing problems.
My short experience in 3D printing has taught me touching anything is bad. Handle PEI sheet by the edges, handle the spools by the rims. Touch only the first inch or two of the filament when loading or unloading ...
Re: filament working then not
It is winter here and I can see great salt bay from my windows upstairs so Yes I do live in Mid-coastal Maine but I seldom see the RH in my house get above 20% until April and some years May... as a result I only exercise strict dry storage ruls for anything other than Nylon until I see the RH get above 30% in the spring... I do have a modified food dehydrator for drying Filament at precise temperature and timing settings that I use in the spring and summer nut if you live north of the 40degrees of Latitude in the October to April period I doubt you need to do much to keep your filament dry enough to print.
