Extreme "stringing"
I've never seen this before. The print looks like a hedgehog! The area around the printer is also full of small pieces of broken off filament. It was a brand new roll of filament, and the same brand I normally use. No changes in the settings either.
I have occasionally in the last few months seen small pieces of broken of strands of filaments lying close to the printer after the print has finished. But that has only been one or two pieces, nothing like this. And nothing on the actual prints themselves.
I read another post about stringing, and humidity was mentioned as possible cause. It was raining part of the day this was printed. Could that have caused this?
RE: Extreme "stringing"
This doesn't look like stringing at all. Either the model came off the sheet and then the next strands of filament were printed in thin air. Or you're trying to print at very wrong temperatures for that filament. Most likely the former, me thinks though.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
That's what's weird, the model did not come of the sheet. It was rather solidly stuck to it.
The pictures aren't the best, but in reality it doesn't look like the "spaghetti" you get when it prints into thin air. The strands are actually coming out the sides of the print. The strands are also very brittle. They brake as soon as I touch them. Leading me to think that it's maybe related to the filament somehow.

And no layer shifts either? Then next guess is wet filament.
Plenty of examples of filament being wet right out of the bag. You mentioned rain. My most extreme example is Prusament Neon Green PETG, which in my hands turns from printing great when dried overnight to a messy bitch by the end of a day of printing on humid summer days. But most filament I wouldn't expect to be that temperamental.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
No layer shifts. Everything looks very nice, except for the pieces of filament sticking out everywhere.
Maybe it was just a bad batch of filament. This was my first print with this roll after all.
I guess I can always buy another roll and see if it's better. I bought this one a couple of months ago, so hopefully they will have new batch in the store.
RE: Extreme "stringing"
Are your sure your model is printable without supports? If there are overhanging sections starting mid air (like on many figurines and statues that have not been optimized for 3d-printing) that would result in very similar spaghetti without layer shifts or adhesion problems.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
It's made to be 3D-printed. It even comes pre-split into several parts that needs to be glued together, just to get rid of any overhangs.
RE:
mh, could you zip and post the slicer project? Have you successfully printed this model before?

I'm having some string issues as well but I'm using sainsmart carbon nylon. It's printing well but when it gets close to the top or when it's near a edge that's what's happening. I have the filament in a dry box and keeping the moisture out as well. Any idea on how to fix this? Thanks

Don’t hijack pwzapp’s thread with that. Start your own.

Okay, I didn't know since this is all new to me but thanks for the info and I'll start me own
RE: Extreme "stringing"
I haven't tried this particular model before. I will try another one that I have successfully printed before, and see what happens.
RE:
I've now tried a similar model that I've printed successfully before, and it printed just fine.
I will make another attempt at this troublesome model and see if it maybe was just a random event that caused my issues.
The slicer project can be found here: https://welzien.se/misc/statue3_1.zip in case anybody fancies a look at it.
RE: Extreme "stringing"
The model look perfectly fine to me.
Sometimes using plugins like octolapse, that move the extrude away and pause for a short moment can cause brittle little strings, but normally not that many.
I'm out of ideas, I'd watch or record the printer printing the model and try to figure out what's happening.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
@robin Yes, I've also been thinking about filming it to see what's going on. I did one more try, but still the same issue.
The model was sliced 1-2 years ago, and I'm thinking about maybe trying to slice it with the latest version of PrusaSlicer, and see if maybe it behaves better.
I funny, I have three models from the same series (they're statues to be used as terrain for miniature wargaming), and model 1 and 2 prints just fine. It's only number 3 that gives these issues.
RE: Extreme "stringing"
Sounds like a plan.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
I re-sliced it with the latest version of PrusaSlicer, but no change.
Next step will probably be to try a different slicer, and see if I get a different result.
RE: Extreme "stringing"
I finally took a look at the 3mf file. Looks like there are seven parts in it. Are you trying to print them all at once?
When I load it as is into PS 2.5, I get a warning about an empty layer but I'm sure that's not the cause of your issues.
If you are indeed printing them all at once, parts 4 and 5 are almost guaranteed to come off the sheet. Part 5 in particular has almost no contact points. I wouldn't dream of printing them without a brim. Even then I'd be nervous about parts 4 and 5 without adding some break-away supports.

RE: Extreme "stringing"
I've had no problems with them coming off the sheet. They stick pretty good. It's just the weird "stringing" that's the problem.
I sliced just part 1 with Cura and it printed just fine. I will now try to add the rest of the parts and see if they also print well with Cura.
RE: Extreme "stringing"
All the parts printed just fine after I sliced them with Cura. Very weird indeed.
