Every print that has a base then hollow on top misprints with wider ridge mark

Hi all,

I am having a nightmare at the moment with a number of prints, they all involve a print with a base including a 15% or 20% infill then a continuation of the same size object but hollowed out. I have tried numerous different materials ( all PETG and different brands ) and both in Prusaslicer and Cura but with no difference.

I have tried to disable elephant foot compensation and that doesn't help either.

The strange thing is its only just started doing this and doesn't print like this on other brand printers?

Any help would be so appreciated 🙂

Try reading this rather mammoth thread https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-how-do-i-print-this-printing-help/buldge-when-print-reaches-solid-layers/

I think:
This is due to the natural shrinkage of the marerial after cooling. You could try to increase the temperature from the end of the bottom layer and thus the cooling time a little bit. This gives this area more time to shrink. I might also reduce the printing speed.

Things that may help:

  • Reduce external perimeter speed
  • Increase external perimeters (shells)
  • Calibrate extrusion multiplier
  • Calibrate linear advance
  • Vary external perimeter width/adjust design if possible for thicker walls

If your walls vary in thickness, you will see similar effects when PrusaSlicer transitions from gap fill to sparse infill. This is likely a bug, but I haven't written up a github issue for it yet.
