Dimensional Accuracy questions

hi,

I am trying to dial in my dimensional accuracy. I have a i3mk3 and am using 1.75 filament with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

i followed the steps here to calibrate:

https://mattshub.com/2017/04/19/extruder-calibration/

The hollow cube with one perimeter comes out spot on, 0.45 mm thick walls and overall dimensions are  very very close. So from that i conclude that everything is calibrated properly.

But,when I print a cube with infill, the dimensions are off—too big by about 0.15 to 0.2 mm.

From that discrepancy I think that something else must be off. What settings should I be adjusting to fix this? Many thanks in advance z

RE: Dimensional Accuracy questions

With infill, is it still a single perimeter? Or more? Does the error increase with the size of the test cube or is it constant?

I don’t know. I will do a print later today and find out.

Also, there is a compensation setting in Slic3r PE to adjust for things like this: perhaps not ideal, but at least it is there to use:

[Print Settings] Advanced > XY Size Compensation [ 0 ] mm

RE: Dimensional Accuracy questions

I played around for quite a while with the horizontal expansion, but the problem was when you've got holes and external dimensions that you're trying to get just right, horizontal expansion can work against you, i.e. the external dimension was spot on but not the hole. In the end, I ended up tweaking the flow rate to get it just right, and that worked pretty well. The magic number was 98.5% flow. Thanks everyone for your help.
