Defects in Same Layer as Other Features

I am trying to print a base for a planter ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4239119/files) and printing a bulging ring in some of the layers. This bulge seems to correspond to the layers where it is printing the inner surface (please see attached images, I apologize for the poor quality my phone would not focus properly). I have had issues in the past with defects mirroring other features in prints before (I don't have pictures as I no longer have those items) but never to this extent.

I used:

PrusaSlicer 2.2.0

Original Prusa i3 MK3S/MMU2S

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Defects in Same Layer as Other Features

There is a lengthy thread on this very topic that has some info that might be helpful.

I'd start with:

  • Calibrate your extrusion multiplier for the specific filament you're using. Any over-extrusion on those solid internal layers has to go somewhere. It will tend to go outwards.
  • Reduce external perimeter speeds. 25mm/s seems to work well for external surface quality.
  • Try adding an external perimeter.

@bobstro

Thank you for your suggestions, I have tried implementing them. In calibrating my extrusion multiplier, I found my printer is actually under extruding. I also checked the external perimeter speeds and they were 25mm/s. I wasn't completely sure what you meant by adding an external perimeter, but I did change the settings to "External Perimeters First" and I still had the same issue.

Any further next steps to try would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
