Bad first layer quality
My MK3 is only a week old, and I learning as I go! But I can't really understand why this is happening. The right side is very rough (It started good!), but all the other sides are fine. I'm testing the concentric bottom/top layer, is it generally better to go with the standard rectilinear ?
Is there any explanation to this problem?
Re: Bad first layer quality
I'm using Slicer Prusa with optimal settings.
Re: Bad first layer quality
Could it be that the bed is not leveled and it gets too close to the nozzle on one side (the side that is rough)?
Re: Bad first layer quality
Could be, but the tests says everything is fine. Is it possible that the bed must be leveled anyway?
Re: Bad first layer quality
lift your spring steel completely off the bed and make absolutely sure there is *nothing* under it. No dust, no small filament parts, Notta.
Rerun Z calibration.
Then rerun 1st layer calibration.
Check the thickness of the final small flat square that prints after 1st layer calibration with GOOD digital calipers. (Extreme emphasis on GOOD)
Is thickness 0.2 - 0.25mm? If not, rerun 1st layer calibration and live adjust Z.
Hope this helps.
Re: Bad first layer quality
Thanks!
As I started the print I'm doing now I was thinking exactly that: Maybe I got some dirt under the sheet? I'll check this and do as you describe, when this print is done.
If the bed is not 100% level, shouldn't the initial Z calibration (the 9 points) compensate for this? ❓
Re: Bad first layer quality
Update:
Ok, this seems to have done the trick. I got some fairly good calipers, and they now say it's 0.22 mm. The first layer was almost perfect, only some mess in the corner as you see. Is this result acceptable, or would you continue adjusting?
