Z-Axis - new firmware (?) problem

Hello,

on my i3-MK3S I am using the latest firmware (3.9.0), also the latest drivers & apps (2.3.0) and the newest Prusa slicer.

I know that something has changed in the firmware to move the printer head a bit higher in some situations (after a print,...) but on my printer, when I have a higher print, it moves the z right up to the top and if I want to move the z down the 'long press\move z' shows '+0,2'.

The problem: I can move these +0,2 down to '0', but then it does not go into the negative numbers...

Question: Why does the z-value show '+0,2' when the head is on the top? - And how can I move the head down?

Could it be a firmware\software problem?

Thanks for your answers!

Eduard

P.S.:  Could somebody tell me where to post requests requests for the Prusa Slicer?!

RE: Z-Axis - new firmware (?) problem

Hi Eduard,
When you turn the printer on, the printer has no idea where the Z axis, is,

for safety the printer assumes that it is at the bottom of travel, and refuses to go lower.
If you select Autohome, from the LCD Menu, it will lower the Z axis whilst monitoring the Z axis endstop sensor, 'the Pinda Probe'
this will cause the printer to search for home on X, Y and Z axis

If you want to make suggestions for Prusa Slicer, I suggest you visit the Prusa Slicer Github page, and make the suggestions there. then the developers will see the suggestions quickly

regards Joan

Joan,

thank you very much for the quick answer - I do understand that the printer has no idea where the head is when I turn it on, but I think - not sure, will monitor during the next prints - it was 'on' and after the print it showed what I described.

Will try the 'Autohome'...

One more thing I do not understand:  With the head up there and the z showing '+0,2' I performed a filament change and suddenly the display showed the correct height and I was able to move it down!   -  ??

As said, will monitor closely and write things down, saves my old brain from playing memory games with me!

- And thanks for the tip on the slicer requests!

Best, Eduard

RE: Z-Axis - new firmware (?) problem

Hi Eduard,
I don't know why the z shows 0.2mm

Mine, which is running 3.8.1 firmware, shows 0.0mm  when switched on, even though the extruder is about 100mm above the heatbed.
minimum layer height used to be 0.15mm in firmware, I don't know if  this has changed in the new firmware

regards Joan
