Y movements noisier than X movements

Does your mk3s movements in the Y axis sound louder (and higher pitch), than X axis movements?

I am running genuine Igus bearings on both X and Y axis. And I've even added an Astrosyn damper to the Y motor mount. But still, Y movements are considerably louder.

For my attempt at objective test, I issued some gcode commands going from X=0 to X=250, and from Y=0 to Y=210, at 100mm/s., and measured the decibel level with the dB Meter app on an iPhone maybe 3" away.

X movements are about 54 dB, but Y movements are about 62 dB.

My belts tension numbers are approx: X 224, Y 275.

Does anyone know what's causing the Y noise? What can I do about it?

Thanks!

Check if your rods and linear bearings are lubricated, running them dry will cause extra friction, generate extra noise, I am assuming all bearings were installed in the correct orientation to maximise bearing surface area as per the manual.

If everything is lubricated as it should be, and belts tensioned correctly then try putting the printer on a solid heavy base like a concrete slab, this makes a big difference.

Get yourself a big zip tie, and wrap it around the Y stepper motor and the frame - placing the strap at the end of the motor farthest away from the pulley.  Tighten it down really good.  Try now.

The stock y motor mount leaves the body of the stepper motor a paint-coat thickness away from the back cross-frame member.  The strap keeps the motor from buzzing against the back frame when it moves the print bed.

Now, go get yourself some squash ball feet to cut that motor noise from all axis down to a whisper.

I should've been clearer: I am running Igus Drylins as my bearings. And in the X direction, it's super quiet. In the Y, much less so.

I didn't think drylins need lubrication, but I did a light wipe down with PTFE on a towel on all the rods.

@Dan Rogers: interesting! I tried it, am not sure if it made much difference? I did the Sorbothane feet mod ( https://www.thingiverse.com/make:690451). I did try listening to the moves while holding the printer off the table, and the noise difference is still present on the Y moves, so I don't think that's the bulk of the problem.
