X-AXIS grinding/clicking noises

Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help me with this. Got a brand new MK3S kit and put it together over the weekend. Having some strange noise from the x-axis I cannot figure out.

Video is a bit long. Sound is there from the beginning though it's quiet. Gets very loud at around 1min. Also, you can hear clicking that sounds like the extruder, but it's not (you can always feel the extruder skipping when you hold the filament). Video here:

I actually also have the MK3 pre-built and it's an absolute tank. With this kit build I initially had the y-axis U rings too tight, which caused some similar noises on the y-axis, but I resolved that . However, I've loosened the bolts holding the x-axis at the back of the extruder and the sound doesn't seem effected. In fact it appears to be getting worse.

I'm concerned it's the bearings on the rod or it's the free bearing on the x-axis, as the sound appear to be coming from there. I hope it' snone of these and just have some bolts too tight or lose somewhere.

HALP!

the buzzing sounds like the belt might be rubbing somewhere. Check it is aligned and centered between the openings it passes through...

No wear on the belt and it's not rubbing seriously anywhere. But I am seeing a lot of "puffing" and "breathing", and liquid coming out of one of the top bearings on the x axis. That doesn't seem right, does it? I tried to get a video fo it, but you can't see the puffing and "breathing" of the black plastic on the outside of the bearing, nor can you see the wetness from it.

Your upper bearing alignment looks off; may just be the video, but worth checking they are installed and aligned properly. Others have misinstalled them and had binding and noise issues.

Also worth asking if you lubed them before installing on the rails.

@  lucas-m11, did you resolve the clicking issue?

RE: X-AXIS grinding/clicking noises

I was having this issue and have so far fixed it by changing the zap straps and tightening them as much as possible. I got cheap dollar store ones that are a little on the thin side so its a temp fix until I get nice and thick zap straps ones as pictured above.

It all started when I replaced my extruder for the bondtech and only had cheap zap straps which I thought were good enough but because they're thin, I think they loosen over time. I then had bought brand new bearings and x-linear rails because previous ones were gauged. I think it all could've been avoided with good zap straps.

A good way to check is with printer off, move extruder left/right and if you hear clicking/crackling it maybe the top bearings just not being zapped on tight enough as pictured.

Hopefully this helps
