X Axis causing printer crash during bed leveling test

I have a pre-assembled i3 Mk3s printer that I have been using since August. It's still completely stock. I recently updated to the new firmware that was released last month, and immediately after the update I started getting errors with the X axis causing a crash during the bed leveling that occurs at the start of a print. It may have nothing to do with the firmware update, but curiously that's exactly when the problem started to manifest.

I don't see any cables or ties getting in the way of the free movement on any axis. If I disable the steppers I can move the head back and forth, though sometimes when pushing the head to the right it suddenly feels like there is more resistance but still moves. The point where it starts resisting is different every time I move the head. Sometimes I can push it back and forth from one end to the other several times before it suddenly resists.

Any idea what could be causing these seemingly random failures? Here is a quick video of the crash in action:

Down rev the firmware to the version the printer came with ... do a full factory reset and recalibrate from scratch ... and try printing again.

ps: the bearings need grease, or they seize during travel.   You may also want to contact Prusa support via CHAT and let them know what you are seeing.

I downgraded the firmware and that fixed the problem. Well that sucks.

Normal operating conditions for Prusa firmware these days.  Waiting for two or three revs or until some feature is actually worth the pain is usually the best way to deal with it; but even then "new" old problems creep in.
