Whats with this loud beep?!?

I just upgraded the firmware of my MK3 to 3_7_2.   Now when I switch it off I get an ear shattering beep.   I looked at the menu and I found a setting for sound which I put to mute.  No effect whatsoever!  Switch off an a LOUD beep.   I know I'm switching the bl**dy thing off why the heck do I need a loud beep.  Its annoying.  Does any know how to stop this blasted beeping?

That's why you are allowed to load prior versions. Especially useful when new features are introduced you don't really want.

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

Are you switching it off with the switch on the power supply or turning it off from the wall?

It sounds like the power panic is kicking in. I'm on 3.7.2 and turn off from the side switch all the time.

I'd reflash the firmware perhaps?

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

It’s doubtful quanlan is the only one getting this very loud beep with the 3_7_2 upgrade. I got it, too, on my MK3S every time when switching off at the power supply. My solution was to tape over the beeper which I located with the help of other posts. When Prusa fixes this annoyance —— and it IS a first class annoyance —- I’ll clear the beeper.

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

oh yeah this is on my list of 'annoying shit you should not make your product do'. beeping when not required.

i have a multimeter that has an auto-off function that i can't disable. it beeps as a warning. and then a few minutes later it beeps as it turns off.

its an arrogance on the part of the product producer. let me make this clear to all tools i own: you are not important enough to warrant getting my attention.

my washing machine did this too. would beep constantly when it was done until i came to visit it. i got so annoyed that i ripped the bleeper off the PCB. also i destroyed my microwave and i have an analogue one now that merely has a mechanical bell that dings once.

It's reportedly a glitch that will be fixed in the new release. It apparently only affects the new black power supplies. Stick with 3.7.1 for now.

Early firmware releases liked to beep all the time and there was no way to shut them off. People went nuts when the printer started screaming like an infant wanting a filament change at 3 in the morning.

I have the loud beep too. Blooming annoying if switching off printer late at night via Alexa after a print has finished and waking up my wife.

Peplvamp/All,

You do realize that it is a known bug that the BEEP/Crash detect happens @ power off for firmware version 3.7.2, correct?

the solutions are:

Revert to 3.7.1.  easy enough to do, OR go into the menu and turn off the BEEPs altogether.  Also easy enough to do.

😀

Happy Printing.

Im going to unsolder the speaker. I do not need any sound feedback.

Desoldering is RATHER harsh.  See my comment above yours.  😉

"... OR go into the menu and turn off the BEEPs altogether..."

Unfortunately this doesn't help. The printer will still beep when powered off.

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

Supposedly, this errant beep on power off is (should be) being addressed in the firmware development. Two temporary ways that I know of to handle this:

  1. Downgrade to the previous firmware version. The current thought is the power panic detection is a little too sensitive.
  2. Place a piece of tape over the hole of the piezo buzzer on the display board. I know this doesn't sound (haha, pun not intended, but fully appreciated) like it would do much, but it is amazing how much just a simple piece of tape over the hole in a piezo buzzer attenuates the sound. This won't remove the beep, but should make it much less ear-splitting (and hopefully less annoying to others in the household).

We sometimes use option 2 here at work when a safety device has an error and we can't silence the alarm while waiting for the service technicians to come around and fix it.

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

Hi Guys,
I have two Mk3s's both on the same firmware one has the silver power supply and doesn't beep, the other has the black power supply and does beep,

I raised the issue with  development this morning, and have just seen a reply saying that it will be fixed in 3.8, but no indication as to when 3.8 will be released.

so if you can sit back and relax for a while, the promise is on it's way! .

Yess! This is a major problem for me, I switched back to 3.7.1 and it was all fixed. But it was especially annoying when I would turn off my printer late at night and waking up my family. I really do hope they change this is a future release.

RE: Whats with this loud beep?!?

Its a permanent solution, de-soldering the speaker. I have done this on a Ramps Delta printer before. Reverting to previous firmware implies the other benefits are lost just because of a loud beep. I run my printers via Raspberry Pis and Octoprint. Hardly fully tested firmware always destroys confidence. So meanwhile ........

My MK3S has the black power supply. And the beep cannot be disabled in settings.
