What rods used in i3

If I wanted to build a clone of the i3, what rods are used? Stainless steel?  what diameter?

Any suggestions on source to get them?

Best Answer by K7ZPJ:

These are  the Mitsumi rod and bearings part numbers used on the MK3.

  • 10x LMU8 Misumi
  • 2x PSFJ8-320
  • 2x PSFJ8-330
  • 2x PSFJ8-370

You can use the part numbers to find the right section on the Mitsumi website to look up the part numbers for the rods of the length you want.  The diameter is 8mm

The rods are made out of an alloy that is specific to bearing use.  You can't use a generic stainless steel rod for use with LMU8 bearing.

if you buy a clone kit, you should get rods included

You must have misunderstood my question.   if  "I" build a clone, not buy one.

I don't want one the same size,  I'm thinking of building a bigger one.

Zaribo offer longer rods for larger printers, they also offer larger diameter rods for greater rigidity on larger spans
and they sell matching bearings.

I have just bought a set of Y axis rods and bearings, because I did something silly to the originals! 🙁
