Under-extrusion and not idea what else to check
Hello,
i currenty encounter serious problems with myI3 MK3S+ preventing me from printing at all. The problem centers around the fact that the printer simply does not put through enough material ( i attach screenshots from the first layer calibration print where it can be seen in particular in the thin lines ).
Printing normal models is not possible, there is no first layer created at all, instead the material clogs outside around the nozzle ( not enough material to stick to the surface ).
What i tried so far ( for some i followed the guides available on the page )
- X/Y/Z calibration
- Pinda re-adjustment to have the necessary offset in hight to the nozzle ( ~1mm higher )
- First layer calibration with Z-offset adaption ( mandatory as Pinda height changed )
- multiple cold-pulls, while these never yielded "results" ( = even using white material there was no clogged material pulled out, and the shape of the pulled material from the nozzle looked well 'nozzle shaped'
- Using the delivered thin needle to clean out possible material "from the bottom up" ( done before cold pull and after )
- Trying multiple different tightness of the idler/"bondtech-things" ( sorry here my english gives way ... )
I did not check the tightening of the belts, but i am quite confident to say that the lack of material pressed through the nozzle is not related here.
So ... i ran out of ideas into some kind of frustration - any help would be appreciated 🙂
bexxx

Mh, your z-offset is a bit on the low side, but that's not causing your problems.
It seems to me that all the material is there - there is a thicker extrusion/blob after the gaps - so I would not suspect the extruder but an adhesion problem. The printbed looks kind of worn, dented and not really clean. It this the better one of both sides? I'd start with a thorough cleaning with soap and water...
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Find out why this is pinned in the general section!

I agree with @robin that it looks like it might be an adhesion problem. I would add that you use hot water when washing and use dish soap. Then to ensure success, I would apply an adhesion aid, my favorite is AquaNet hairspray, but there are many.
The adhesion aid might not be required, but it adds another element to ensure adhesion that I would at least use for a test.
It also could be related to filament moisture. you didn't mention the filament material your using, but I haven't found a material that doesn't absorb moisture to some extent. I routinely use PETG and have to leave it in dry boxes during the winter months, but even PLA can have adhesion and extrusion problems if it absorbs too much water.
