Tugged Wires, Hot Extruder Motor?
Hello,
Just yesterday, I partially disassembled my extruder (while it was on the printer) so that I could remove the PTFE tube. However, While removing the motor, it accidentally slipped out of my hands and fell, and it abruptly stopped because the wires suspended it above the bed. When I reassembled it, the extruder motor got very hot, after 30 minutes after each print. The extruder motor never got that hot before, even during 15 or even 40 hour long prints, and I am wondering if when the wires got "tugged" hard, if some connection in the motor got damaged, causing it to heat up more

Right now, it is printing PETG with no issues, and the filament isn't melting like PLA would from a hot extruder gear, as some on this forum have experienced. However, I am worried that this will drastically shorten the motor life.
I hope I would not have to, but will I need to replace the motor?
Also, when I say it's hot, it doesn't burn me, but its not comfortable to leave my hand or finger on it for more than 5 seconds.

The extruder motor does get a bit warm when working.
A more likely cause of running hot is excess friction from the Bondtech gears either being mis-aligned or dragging for some other reason. I would especially check to see if the gear attached to the motor slid down on the shaft. This would cause the groove for the filament to be out of alignment and increase drag.
If the wiring got broken, the motor would probably not work at all. If you have a multimeter you could check the resistance of the two coils inside of the motor, each side should be about the same resistance as the other. I believe the wiring is pins 1 &2 for coil 1 and pins 3&4 for coil 2. But if the motor still works, it's probably not the wires themselves. Maybe something internal got misaligned?

So, I ended up checking the alignment of the bondtech gear on my extruder motor, and it seems perfectly aligned, as seen in the image below. If it's not the alignment that is the problem, do you think it's the motor?

I have also tried "printing" without loading any filament into the extruder, and after about 30 minutes, the motor gets hot by itself. Is this a bad sign?
