Just a point, the degresant component of Dawn is sodium lauryl sulphate which is a detergent not a soap.
Soap (e.g. sodium [stearate,myristate]) would not work well at all.

I am puzzled why it's marketed as "dish soap" in the US. I'd always called it detergent. I've seen it referred to as "washing-up liquid" in the UK.

There was a thread on this here a while ago. Some guys tried and claim actual soap works well. Not going to try it myself since it doesn't save any work to do so.

I understand the statement.  Just be glad it exists to help us with 3D Printing.

The world is separated by different use of the english language      Bonnet/Hood,    Boot/Trunk,  Petrol/Gas,   Imperial Gallons/US Gallons , Aluminium/Aluminum, Solder/Soder,  Color/colour,  Chips/Crisps/Fries,  just to introduce a few... 

I used to say, use dish detergent... and people used to think it was some strange chemical only available from exotic sources... 

Dawn and Fairy liquid seem reasonably universal descriptions.
